Arabella said with a hint of exasperation, “Stop moving it. We can discuss training after you’re fully healed. It’s not going anywhere.”

“But I could still supervise, at least,” Lucas replied, sounding genuinely dejected, almost sulky.

After finally getting discharged and having to patiently rest for another two days, he’d thought he would finally get to see her regularly–only to be sent home to recover again. He really missed their time together!

Arabella reassured him in a softer tone, “Just focus on getting better. Once you’re fully recovered, you can train with me without any restrictions. That’ll put my mind at ease, too.”

“Alright,” Lucas finally conceded, though he still sounded reluctant.

As the car engine started, Arabella watched it pull away from the curb before turning back to Edward. “Edward, Ethan and I should get going now, too.”

“Okay, you’ve both had a long day. Get some rest,” Edward reminded her, his voice heavy with remorse for the day’s events.

“You focus on your work,” Arabella said, giving him a small, reassuring smile before getting into the passenger seat beside Ethan.

Ethan nodded to Edward. “We’ll be in touch.”

“Take care,” Edward replied, lifting a hand in farewell.

The car eased into traffic, and Edward stood watching until it disappeared from view.

“Mr. Macdonald,” an assistant approached and said quietly, “Mr. Hamilton had his team look into the window incident from today.”

“Are you certain?” Edward asked, surprised.

The assistant nodded. “Yes. And it seems they discovered something.”

“Do we know what?” Edward pressed.

The assistant shook his head. “The details weren’t shared. But Mr. Hamilton’s expression was quite severe when he received the report.”

Edward’s face grew somber. “So it wasn’t an accident?”

“It… may not have been,” the assistant said carefully. “Our preparations for today were thorough. For a failure like that to occur does seem suspicious.”

“I see,” Edward said, his voice cooling. He instructed the assistant, “Leave this matter for now. Pour all your effort into preparing the joint investment proposal with Ethan.”

That was the priority. It was the real opportunity.

Besides, he had already pieced it together–Ethan had investigated quietly and kept the findings to himself, almost certainly at Arabella’s request.

“Ethan, what did you find?” Arabella got straight to the point once they were on the road.

Ethan raised an eyebrow. “You already guessed, didn’t you?”

A sardonic smile touched Arabella’s lips. “So it was them after all.”

“Yes. Edward’s mother and his uncle,” Ethan confirmed with a slight shrug. Even he was taken aback by the pettiness of some family members.

“They simply refuse to let it go,” Arabella muttered, her jaw tightening.

Even after the company was officially launched, they couldn’t leave Edward alone–disrupting things on such an important day.

“You asked me to investigate discreetly because you didn’t want Edward to be hurt by the truth, right?” Ethan guessed.

“That’s part of it,” Arabella admitted. “But also, I can’t just stand by while my brother is targeted. Not even by Freya and Calvin.”

“So you want to respond, but you’re worried it will put Edward in a difficult position?” Ethan asked, his eyebrow arching slightly.

Arabella shook her head. “He wouldn’t be in a difficult position–he’d support me. But I don’t want him to carry that weight.”

If Edward learned the truth, he would be hurt, but he would side with her. She just wanted to handle it herself, to spare him that particular burden of conflict… because, in the end, they were still his family.

“Let me handle it for you,” Ethan offered,

“You?” Arabella frowned. “I can manage it myself.”

They were her problem to solve; she had no reservations about acting directly.

“But if you act, you’ll become their primary focus,” Ethan reasoned. “If I intervene, it will be harder for them to trace the response back to anyone specific.”

That way, even if they wanted to retaliate against Arabella, they wouldn’t know where to direct then anger.

Arabella’s lips curved into a more genuine, calculating smile. “Hmm, that’s a good point.”

A sly glint flashed in her eyes. “They’ll definitely be watching me closely, waiting for my move. But if I don’t make one…”

The thought was rather satisfying. She wondered what expression Freya would wear then.
