“I was extremely well–prepared, and their team seemed genuinely enthusiastic. Then, out of nowhere, they went cold. Now they won’t even meet with me–they’ve stopped taking my calls.” If this partnership fell through, his losses would be substantial.
“You invested so much personally in this. I saw how many hours you poured into the preparations. It really shouldn’t have gone this way…” Freya’s eyes narrowed thoughtfully. “Do you think… someone might be deliberately targeting us?”
“Targeting us?” Calvin fell into deep contemplation.
“Otherwise, the timing is just too perfect.” Freya frowned. “Don’t you find it suspicious?”
“Now that you mention it… It does seem unusually convenient.” At first, he had accepted it as a simple loss, but now he began to wonder if there was a hidden hand at work.
With a dark look in her eyes, Freya said, “Have someone look into it. We need to know who’s behind this.”
“I’ll arrange it immediately.” Calvin pulled out his phone and made a call. “I need you to look into something for me… yes, as soon as possible… exactly.”
Hanging up, Calvin turned back to his sister. “This setback has hit Clark Group hard. It’s going to take some time to recover.”
“Whoever is responsible, once I find out, they won’t get away with it!” Freya fumed.
“There’s another matter… What have you decided about Harper and Dylan?” Calvin ventured to ask.
“Harper is completely infatuated with Dylan. For now, all I can do is stall—buying time day by day,” Freya replied.
“Given the circumstances, that’s our only option. Besides, we might need Johnston Group’s support to navigate through this difficult period,” Calvin pointed out.
Freya glanced at him. “I understand. I’ll speak with Zack and Sarah.”
“If they’re willing to help, that would be ideal.” Calvin sighed wearily.
“They will be.” The corner of Freya’s mouth curled into a knowing, slightly scornful smile. “Their son has his… limitations. It won’t be easy for them to find a suitable match. Right now, they’re probably just as worried that Harper might walk away.”
“Then I’ll leave it in your hands. I’m counting on good news.” Calvin felt a small measure of relief.
He genuinely needed the Johnston family’s backing to weather this storm.
“Don’t worry. I’ll call them right now.” Freya picked up the phone.
As soon as the call connected, Freya’s tone shifted to one of warm cheer. “Hello, Sarah! It’s Freya. Is Harper there with you by any chance?”
“No, she went out with Dylan–said they were going shopping and then to a movie,” Sarah answered.
“Oh, I see. Well, let the young people enjoy their time.” Freya paused briefly, then smoothly changed tack. “Actually, Calvin is exploring a promising new venture right now. Since we’re about to become family, I thought it best to keep opportunities within the circle. I was wondering if Zack might be interested in taking a look?”

“I’ll mention it to Zack when he gets home this evening,” Sarah replied noncommittally.

“Of course, that’s only natural.” Freya chuckled warmly. “To be honest, I’d planned to bring this up with Zack around the time of the kids‘ engagement party. But with my troublesome eldest causing some delays, the party plans might be pushed back a bit. So I figured, why not discuss business a little sooner.”
“Alright, I’ll be sure to pass it along,” Sarah agreed.
Feeling the opening, Freya pressed gently. “Actually, Calvin could come by Johnston Group and present the details to Zack in person, if that’s convenient.”
“I suppose that could be arranged…” Sarah sounded hesitant.
“That way, it’s no trouble for you. Besides, they’d need to talk directly sooner or later anyway,” Freya suggested with a convincing
smile.
“Alright then,” Sarah finally consented.
A flicker of triumph sparked in Freya. “Then it’s settled. I’ll have Calvin head over to your offices right away.”
“Right now? Isn’t that a bit sudden?” Sarah sounded surprised.
“In business, my dear, timing is everything. We have to move quickly to avoid unexpected complications,” Freya urged, her voice taking on a note of faux–concerned advice.
After another brief pause, Sarah gave in. “Fine, send him over.”
“Excellent! It’s agreed.” Freya’s smile widened, crinkling the corners of her eyes. “By the way, let the kids have dinner here tonight.
I’ll have the cook prepare a lovely meal. I’ll call them after their movie and tell them to come straight here.”
Sarah had little choice but to accept. “Alright.”
‘And we really must arrange a proper family dinner together soon,” Freya added warmly.
‘That sounds fine,” Sarah replied.
After hanging up, Freya turned to Calvin with a satisfied expression. “You see? They weren’t really in a position to refuse.”
“Head over now. Just tell the receptionist you’re there at the family’s invitation,” she instructed.
Calvin nodded in admiration. “You’re really something. I tried reaching out to Zack before, but he was always ‘too busy. This time, he’ll have to make time.”
“Alright, off you go.” Freya gave an approving nod.
As Calvin left, Freya called Harper.
“Harper, sweetheart, bring Dylan home for dinner tonight,” she said, her voice sugary
“Okay, will do,” Harper replied cheerfully.
“Good, you two enjoy the rest of your afternoon.” Freya hung up, pleased with her maneuvering.
On the other end, Harper linked her arm through Dylan’s. “Honey, Mom wants us to come home for dinner tonight I bet she wants

I started the novel with great interest. In the beginning the storyline was captivating. Then I feel that the more the story advances, the twists were no longer great. Moreover I don't like Arabella s personality, cold, distant......
