“Zack, it’s getting late,” Freya said, breaking the quiet. “After everything that’s happened, you both must be worn out. Why don’t you head home and get some rest? First thing tomorrow, we’ll sort things out and do whatever we can to bring the kids back as soon as possible.”
Sarah nodded in agreement. “That’s what I was thinking. The sooner we deal with this, the better.”
“Good,” Freya replied. “We’ll meet at the police station first thing in the morning.”
“All right.”
With that settled, Zack and Sarah left.
Once they were gone, Calvin turned to Freya, frustration in his voice. “Why were you so accommodating just now? Did you forget how they completely humiliated Harper at the party? Breaking up with her right in front of everyone just to chase after that girl?”
Freya’s brow furrowed. “That really happened?” The Johnstons were crossing a line.
“Harper was shattered,” Calvin went on. “She just shut down. When they led her away, she didn’t even respond.”
Freya let out a scornful huff. “I’m not surprised. The Johnstons have always been like that–grasping opportunists, only looking out for themselves.”
She glanced at Calvin. “I never intended for Harper to marry into that family anyway. For now, we’re using each other. It is what it
is.”
“So what’s the plan, then?” Calvin asked.
“Clark Group took a major hit. We still need the Johnstons‘ connections–we can’t afford to burn that bridge yet,” Freya explained.
Calvin looked confused. “But the Johnstons suffered a big loss in this too.”
‘Even so, they’re still the Johnstons. Their network here in Doranor City runs deeper than ours. We need them,” Freya insisted. ‘And right now, they need us just as much. We’re stuck warming each other’s hands through this winter.”
The two families were tied together now–neither could walk away.
‘I get it,” Calvin said slowly. “So we both know the other has an agenda, but we also know neither one can afford to turn on the other yet.”
‘Exactly,” Freya confirmed. “So don’t act like you’re scared of them.”
“Understood.”
After a pause, Calvin spoke again, his tone uneasy. “Hey, Freya… how did that girl end up with a brother who’s that well- connected?” The thought alone left a bitter taste in his mouth.
“I didn’t see that coming either.” Freya’s expression darkened, her jaw tightening. “How does someone like her get so lucky?”
“It’s going to make dealing with her even harder from now on,” Calvin muttered gloomily.

Freya stayed quiet, a heavy feeling settling in her chest.

Seeing how drained she looked, Calvin softened. “Freya, it’s late. You should get some rest. We’ll find a way to handle Arabella eventually.”
“I’m just worried about Harper. I wonder how she’s holding up…” Freya’s eyes grew watery.
Calvin sighed. “You’ve always been too soft on her, Freya. That’s why she never learned where to draw the line. If she’d just listened to me earlier today, none of this would’ve happened.”
“She was switched at birth–Harper went through so much growing up,” Freya shot back defensively. “Is it wrong that I want to make things up to her?”
She wanted to give Harper everything she could.
“There has to be a limit,” Calvin replied gently but firmly. “You can’t let her run wild, or she’ll keep landing herself in trouble out in the real world too.”
Freya gave him a tired look and waved a hand. “You should head home.”
“All right, I’ll get going then.” Knowing he wouldn’t change her mind, Calvin dropped it and left.
Once alone, Freya sank into the sofa. Too worried about Harper to sleep, she spent the night restless and uneasy.
The next morning, sunlight streamed brightly through the windows.
Arabella woke up, rubbing her sore temples with a sigh. “Ugh, I can’t believe I barely slept.”
She’d stayed up too late and now felt completely drained.
Downstairs, her parents and brothers were already in the kitchen. She greeted them softly.
“Morning Dad, Mom. Frank, Ethan.”
After saying hello, she took a seat at the table.
“You look exhausted,” Ethan remarked, concerned.
Frank studied her face. “Seems like you didn’t sleep well. Something on your mind?”
Arabella shook her head. “No, not really.”

I started the novel with great interest. In the beginning the storyline was captivating. Then I feel that the more the story advances, the twists were no longer great. Moreover I don't like Arabella s personality, cold, distant......
