Seeing that as a yes, Arabella linked arms with Florence and turned on the charm. “I know you worry about me, Mom–but don’t. I can take care of myself. Remember, I was trained by Aletta.”

Florence tapped her lightly on the forehead, unable to hide her affection. “You always know just what to say to make me feel better.”

“Heh.” Arabella picked up a forkful of breakfast and passed it to Florence’s plate. “Here, Mom–eat up.”

“You too,” Florence replied, her eyes warm.

The rest of the family began digging in as well.

Jonathan brought it up casually between bites. “What’s the focus of your project, Arabella?”

“Medical equipment,” she answered.

“Ah, right–that’s your world,” Jonathan said with an approving smile. “For a second there I thought you were getting into venture capital. If you ever want to try finance, I could hand over one of the firms to you.”

Arabella’s lips twitched. She shook her head right away. “No thanks, Dad. I’ve got enough going on as it is.”

She was swamped already–the last thing she needed was more on her plate.

Jonathan chuckled at how firmly she refused. “If it’s too much, that’s fine. The offer stands, though–just say the word whenever.” “Thanks, Dad, but between the biotech company and the manufacturing plant, I’ve got my hands full. Finance isn’t really on my radar right now,” Arabella said gently but firmly, still smiling.

Truth was, besides the companies she was openly running, she had plenty of her own projects going on behind the scenes.

“Don’t let your dad pressure you, honey,” Florence cut in. “You do what you love. And even if you didn’t lift a finger, this family’s got you. Dad and I will always be here for you.”

“So will 1,” Frank chimed in warmly.

“And me,” Ethan added, grinning. “I’ve got your back.”

Watching her whole family rally around her, Arabella felt a swell of warmth in her chest.

“Thank you, Dad, Mom, Frank, Ethan.” She might not need the help, but she never doubted their love was real.

“Here–have some oranges.” Florence peeled a couple of oranges and slid them into Arabella’s bowl.

“Mom, can I get one too?” Ethan asked, leaning forward hopefully.

Florence shot him a look. “Peel your own.”

“Wow, Mom–where’s the love?” Ethan pretended to clutch his heart.

“Aren’t you a little old for that?” Florence rolled her eyes.

“Here.” Frank passed a peeled orange into Ethan’s bowl.

Ethan made a face. “Who wants one you peeled?”

He flicked it right back.

“So mature,” Frank deadpanned, then went back to his meal.

“Yeah, yeah, Mr. GrownUp,” Ethan retorted, turning back to Florence. “Mom, come on-”

“Thump.” An orange flew across the table and bonked Ethan right on the forehead. “Ow!”

Jonathan’s stern voice followed. “Eat your breakfast. If you’re just going to clown around, go do it somewhere else.”

Ethan straightened up immediately. He set the orange aside and muttered, “Didn’t want one that bad anyway.”

Arabella gave him a sympathetic glance. Ethan caught her eye, winked, and she smiled back.

After breakfast, everyone started heading out of Cloudrise Manor.

Florence watched them go, a soft smile on her face. “They’re all grown up and still teasing their old mom.”

Jonathan glanced over. “You’re not old.”

“That’s not the point,” Florence said, playfully nudging him.

“Whether it is or not, you’re not old. You’re every bit as beautiful and graceful as you were years ago.” Jonathan’s words were sweet, but he clearly meant every one.

Florence smiled. “You’re the only one who sees me like that.”

“I’m just stating facts. Ask anyone–they’ll tell you the same.” Jonathan was determined to make her believe him.

“Alright, alright. You should get going,” Florence said, her cheeks glowing happily.

“All right, I’m off.” Jonathan headed out with a smile,
