“The car belongs to a friend of my brother’s. The day I came to see you, my brother wanted to make a good impression, so he borrowed it from a friend,” Arabella explained, allowing a hint of sheepishness to show.
Hearing this, Edward immediately connected it to the events of the past few days. So Freya had been right–Arabella’s brother wasn’t wealthy after all.
Maybe that was why Arabella couldn’t help the Macdonald family. She truly didn’t have the means, not that she didn’t want to.
Despite the conflicts between Arabella and the others, he knew Arabella had a good heart and always acted with reason.
“Arabella, you did all this so I wouldn’t worry, didn’t you? I didn’t realize your new situation wasn’t much better either. I shouldn’t have let Mom take that money from me,” Edward said, his expression growing somber.
Arabella realized Edward had misunderstood. “It’s not what you think. I really am doing well now.”
She couldn’t tell him the whole truth, but she hoped he’d believe her.
“Please, don’t lie to me. I know you too well,” Edward said regretfully.
“I’m really not lying. The car was borrowed, but that doesn’t mean I’m unhappy,” Arabella insisted, trying to reassure him.
“Alright, let’s not talk about it anymore. Have something to eat first.” Arabella quickly changed the subject, setting the food she’d brought in front of him.
“You bought so much,” Edward sighed, looking at the generous spread.
She didn’t have much to spare, yet she’d gotten him all this. He’d have to transfer some money to her.
With that thought, Edward took out his phone and sent the remainder of his savings to Arabella via a direct bank transfer.
A notification chimed on Arabella’s phone. She glanced at it and saw the transfer.
“Why did you send me money?” she asked, looking at him blankly.
“The hospital bills shouldn’t fall on you. You have to accept it, or I’ll check myself out right now,” Edward said seriously, holding her gaze.

Seeing he was genuinely upset, Arabella yielded for the moment. “Then you can’t bring up leaving the hospital again.”
“I won’t if you keep the money,” Edward replied.
“Alright,” Arabella agreed after a moment’s thought.
She could hold onto it for now to ease his mind. She could return it to him once he
recovered.
“Here, try this. They’re all your favorites,” Arabella said, opening the containers for him.
Edward took a bite and smiled with satisfaction. You know me so well. I’ve been wanting this lately but never got around to buying it.”
“Really? Then have as much as you’d like today,” Arabella said, pleased to see him enjoying it.
Just then, Owen entered with a nurse. Seeing Arabella, he greeted her. “Ms. Macdonald, you’re here early.”
“Yes. Are you here to administer my brother’s medication?” Arabella asked.
“We are, but it looks like you’re in the middle of a meal. We can come back,” Owen said, noticing the breakfast.
“It’s fine. You can go ahead,” Edward said politely
“Alright. Please proceed,” Owen told the nurse.
Soon, Edward was set up with an IV drip.
Owen nodded to them. “Enjoy your meal. I’ll be on my way.”
“Thank you,” Arabella replied.
For some reason, Edward couldn’t shake the feeling that Owen was being unusually deferential toward Arabella.
Was it just his imagination?
“Which one would you like more of?” Arabella asked, noticing his distraction.
“I’m full. This was really good. Thank you, Arabella, Edward said, coming back to himself.
“Since when are you so formal with me?” Arabella felt he was looking at her a little strangely.
Edward just smiled without answering.
