Chapter 7

Vincent camped out in Ruby’s private room until she came around.

“Vincent…” she whispered, still scared out of her mind.

He pulled her close, wiping the sweat from her face. “I’m sorry, baby. I should’ve been there.”

Ruby shook her head weakly, then seemed to remember. “What about that woman who was with me? Is she okay?”

Vincent’s expression darkened as he dodged the question. “You’re too kind. I swear this will never happen again.”

He rubbed her back until she fell back asleep.

Then he turned to his right-hand man. “Strip the penthousen and get rid of everything that doesn’t belong. Ruby’s moving in the moment she’s discharged from the hospital”

The guy nodded and pulled out some papers. “Here’s the buyout package you wanted me to draw up. Two casinos plus twenty percent of the business. Enough for her to start fresh somewhere else.”

Vincent grunted approval. “Take it to her. Make sure she signs.”

In his mind, this was too fucking generous.

Scarlett had been with him eight years-she knew how this game worked.

But twenty-four hours crawled by with nothing.

Radio silence on every call and text.

He called the house manager. “Where the hell is Scarlett? Still not back?”

“No sir, we haven’t seen Mrs. Rothschild.”

Vincent felt his irritation spike, mixed with and something else-unease.
