Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 623

Claire’s lips curled into a smug grin.

“Let’s get started.”

She gave a quick signal, and one of her entourages stepped forward, holding out a bottle of pills for Madeline to see.

Madeline eyed the bottle, but there was no way to tell what kind of drug it was. Knowing Claire, though, she was certain it was deadly.

Claire stood and wandered over to a side table cluttered with all kinds of strange chemicals. She didn’t push Madeline to take the pills right away. It seemed Claire actually enjoyed watching people squirm on the edge of death.

Madeline hesitated, her hand hovering in the air. Just as she reached out, someone suddenly slapped the bottle to the floor. Pills scattered everywhere.

Claire slammed her palm on the table, her face twisted in anger. She glared at Luke. “You trying to get yourself killed?”

Instantly, Claire’s entourages drew their weapons, aiming them at Madeline and Luke.

Luke struggled to stand, his dark eyes blazing. “You’re the one should die. What else do you have besides poison, Claire? Is that all you know how to do?”

Madeline grabbed his arm. “Don’t lose your head.”

Claire let out a cold laugh. “If you two don’t want to play along, then you can die together.” She tossed the small scoop she’d been holding aside, her eyes turning frosty. “Finish them.”

“Wait,” Madeline blurted out. “If I die, you’re finished too. Julian will never let you walk away.”

“Oh right... I can’t be the one to kill you,” Claire said, smirking. Madeline’s words had clearly sparked something in her. "Bring Helene here. Tell her I caught Madeline. She will come for hates. I’m sure Ms. Fortner will be more than happy to do this honors. Isn’t that right, Madeline?”

“So, you really think this scapegoat plan is going to work? You think everyone’s an idiot?”

“It might not fool just anybody, but everyone knows you and Helene go way back. She’s been wanting you dead for ages. If she kills you and your body turns up somewhere, nobody’s going to guess there was another killer.”

Madeline nodded.

She had to admit, Claire had thought things through.

Claire caught her look. “So, you think this could work?”

The entire room flipped in an instant.

Claire stared at the micro-camera in Madeline’s hand, her mind racing back through everything she’d said. She almost looked sick with panic.

“Madeline!” She squeezed her fists until her knuckles turned white, then lunged forward, ripping the necklace from Madeline’s hand. She screamed, shaking with rage, “You set me up from the start!”

Madeline didn’t flinch. “You’re right. I set you up. Right from the beginning.”

Claire had thought this was her territory, her rules. She thought Madeline couldn’t possibly fight back. That arrogance had made her careless and cocky.

But Madeline would never walk blindly into a trap.

Claire was shaking with fury. Without thinking, she threw the necklace to the floor and stomped it to pieces.

Madeline didn’t react, her voice steady as she watched Claire unravel. “Breaking the necklace won’t help you.”

Claire laughed, a harsh, bitter sound. “So that’s it. Now I finally understand why Helene and Raine keep losing to you. You’re a lot sharper than the rest of us. No wonder you’re Shelly’s daughter.”
