Chapter 477 An Avalanche
Chapter 477 An Avalanche
After hearing that Winona has gone on a solo ski trip, Elijah pushed his driver to makeup time, speeding along as fast as they
could
He had brought a driver with him and kept a close eye on the weather the entire way.
She used to freak out over a cockroach, and now she’s just taking off on solo road trips like it’s nothing. Sometimes it feels like I dated her for years, and still never really knew her at all.
Over the past six months, he had watched her grow more radiant, more striking than she had ever been before.
And somewhere along the way, he realized he had fallen even deeper for her.
Spending half a year abroad had also put Elijah under constant pressure.
His mother, Eilane Nash, never truly approved of the girl he had chosen. She was still bitter about the arranged marriage he had turned down and kept holding onto that resentment, though in the end, she could not force him to change his mind.
Rhad, on the other hand, was still annoyed that Elijah had nearly emptied his collection, but at the same time, he wanted him to settle down soon. At least then he would not have to keep looking at Bryce’s smug face.
Just a few days ago, Bryce had shown up again, flaunting his baby in front of Rhad like he was the only one with a grandchild.
Three days later, Elijah’s car finally came to a stop at the base of the fountain.
Vehicles were not allowed further in, so he tracked down the owner of a nearby tourist station to ask around.
“You mean a girl from Celandia? They went into the mountaing earlier today,” the owner said.
Elijah set his luggage aside and changed into his gear. Just as he was about to head in, he heard the owner on the phone. His voice, was tight with urgency.
Now and then, Elijah caught fragments of it-words like asking for help.
A bad feeling crept up his spine. “Is something wrong?”
“Sir, I’m sorry, but no more visitors can enter the mountain today. There’s been a small avalanche. I need to call the rescue right now!”
An avalanche!
Elijah barely registered the rest. He took off toward the mountain without another word.
Winona and the others were bundled up in thick down jackets. They had just entered the moun, thick flakes drifting down all around them.
“How’s the weather looking today?” someone asked.

The group leader stayed calm. “It’s fine. The forecast said everything’s normal.”

By the time they reached the midpoint checkpoint, she was buzzing with excitement. She snapped photo after photo, easily over a hundred.
Charlie, a little shy, edged closer. “Winona, can we take a picture together?”
She smiled, relaxed and open. “Of course.”
No one knew that right after that photo was taken, a terrified scream suddenly cut through the air. “Avalanche!”
Elijah saw Charlie still buzzing with excitement, already pulling out his phone to film.
She didn’t even think. She grabbed his arm and bolted. “Stop filming, Charlie!”
Another second, and it could’ve cost him his life.
They sprinted toward the safety cabin, all of them running like hell. The beautiful view from seconds ago vanished beneath a wal of snow, rushing down the slope like a massive wave on fast-forward.
“Did those people make it out?”
They were talking about the first group that had screamed for help.
It was a couple. They had been walking fast, closest to where the avalanche hit.
The group exchanged uneasy looks.
