“Do you even realize you’re about to get married?” Nathan asked.
Trevor frowned. “Of course I do. But Serena is fine. She’s not scared of the dark.”
“And how would you know she’s not scared of the dark? What girl isn’t?”

Nathan’s relentless questioning irritated Trevor. He snapped, “Dad, why do‘ you always take Serena’s side? Doesn’t Amber count your daughter, too?”
Nathan’s eyes went cold. “Since you already know Amber’s my daughter, that’s fine. No matter what kind of connection you two have, Amber can only ever be your little sister!”
Trevor clenched his fists, clearly unwilling to accept it.
‘t’s Serena again. I actually thought she’d changed today, but nope, it’s all fake. What else can she do besides tattling?
‘Rena, don’t you feel like my Uncle Sebastian has… You know, feelings for you?”
‘No.” Serena cut her off immediately. “Lucy, your Uncle Sebastian is just a kind guy. He sees me as a junior. Don’t overthink it.”
‘True,” Lucinda said, rubbing her chin. “You are Trevor’s fiancee, after all. By the way, Rena, are you really going through with breaking off the engagement? The wedding’s just four days away.”
Serena chuckled softly. “Of course. Trevor doesn’t have feelings for me. If I went through with it, I’d only regret it later.”
‘It’s all because of that Amber,” Lucinda said, hugging Serena. “She didn’t even stay abroad quietly. Why come back now? Anyway Rena, no matter what happens with you and Trevor, we’re still best friends. Don’t worry, I’ve got your back, no questions asked.”
Serena smiled lightly. “By the way, your Uncle Nathan and the others haven’t told Old Mr. Levine about us calling off the engagement, right?”
Lucinda shook her head. “Nope. A relative even mentioned a few days ago that they’d rush back just to attend Trevor’s wedding
Serena frowned.
There are only four days left. Are they seriously planning to wait until the wedding day?
I got it,” Serena said.
Trevor barely slept a wink all night. The next morning, he dragged himself into the office with dark circles under his eyes.
He remembered asking Reno from the admin department to look after Serena the previous day, so he stopped by the admin department. “Yesterday, you were supposed to keep an eye on Ms. Steele, How’d she do?
Reno blinked. “Oh, Ms. Steele? She said I didn’t need to stay, so I left.”
After the elevator broke down, they had checked every single one in the building before letting them run again. Reno had been

Trevor tapped his fingers on the desk, thoughtful. “So… she’s okay, right?”

Reno racked his brain. “She was a little shaken. But, you know… any girl would be, in a situation like that.”
Trevor didn’t say more. He just kept a straight face and walked back to his office. He was debating whether to call Serena when hi phone rang. It was Amber.
“Trevor, can you talk to Dad for me? I don’t want to go on that blind date. Ryan Zimmerman is, like, notorious. I don’t want to mee him. And could you also talk to Serena? Because if you and she get married, I’ll be talking to you less. And if she doesn’t want me contacting you…” Her voice wavered just a little, soft and almost choking. “I can stay out of it, too. But can you please, please beg Dad for me? I don’t want an arranged marriage.”
Trevor’s eyes darkened. “Dad’s forcing you to go?”
“Yeah. Mom called me this morning and gave me a name and an address, saying it’s set for tonight. But I’ve got a recording tonight.”
Trevor snorted coldly in his mind. “You don’t have to go. I’ll deal with them at home. Amber, I’m not letting you get dragged into some marriage deal.”
The concern he’d just felt for Serena vanished instantly.
Serena, how long is she gonna keep this up!
Serena had slept it off and felt much better.
