Chapter 79 I Will Be Your Rock
Pain ripped through her chest, making it hard to breathe.
‘Grandma…” Serena sank to the side of the bed, sobs shaking her body.
Memories came in a violent rush, each one crashing against the walls of her mind.
Rena, come here. Let me tell you a story, alright?”
Rena, don’t cry. If your dad can’t give you love, I’ll be your rock. You have me. You’re never less than anyone else.”

Rena, this five percent stake is what I’m leaving you. I don’t know its true value yet. But whatever it’s worth, it will be your oundation. A woman needs security to hold her head high.”
Rena, if you don’t want to marry, then don’t. Your happiness matters more than anything else. I will always stand behind you, no natter what you choose.”
brief rose inside her like a relentless tide, pulling her under completely. It felt as though she were drowning–vision fading, chest onstricting, lungs desperate for air.
Grandma, are you really leaving me?” Serena choked out, voice breaking.
Please, Grandma, come back. Without you, no one will ever love me like you did.”
ime lost meaning as the storm inside gradually began to settle.
She pressed her palm to her face and turned to the frail figure on the hospital bed, skin paling with every passing second.
Calm. Gentle. Silent.
The one steady presence in her life for over ten years was gone.
Sorrow hardened into anger in her eyes.
fit weren’t for Amber–if Grandma hadn’t been provoked–none of this would have happened. Grandma wouldn’t be sick. She vouldn’t be dead.
Serena’s fists clenched until her knuckles ached. Hate surged through her in unrelenting waves, overwhelming every other emotion.
She dialed Donald,
He answered with a cold, contemptuous snort. “So you finally decided to call and beg?”
Serena’s tone was icy, “Grandma’s passed away.”
The news hit him like a hammer. Donald straightened, shock freezing him for a moment. “Mon’s dead? When? Just now?”
“Yes. Come to the hospital. Come alone. I don’t want anyone else there.”
Pain flickered across his face–he had lost his mom, after all.

Yvonne, hearing him on the line, leaned closer. “Donald, what happened? Who’s gone?”
His voice was low, heavy. “Mom’s gone. You and Kyana stay home. I’m heading to the hospital to take care of things”
By the time Donald arrived, Serena’s tears had dried,
She sat there, staring blankly at the walls. Only when he entered did her gaze shift slightly in his direction.
“Mom, why did you leave us so suddenly?” Donald half–kneeled beside the bed, wailing
He struggled to shed real tears, but it was more sound than sorrow.
Serena observed him quietly, detached, noting every gesture, every hollow display of grief.
“Rena, don’t grieve too much. Grandma is in heaven now, living peacefully. She’s still watching over us.
“Leave the rest to me.”
He was Judith’s only son, and Serena wouldn’t deny him this. Mourning her properly was his duty.

At the funeral hall, Yvonne finally encountered Serena again.
It had been only a day, but something about her eyes was different–cold, sharp, and unsettling. A chill ran down Yvonne’s spine whenever Serena’s gaze met hers.
Serena barely spoke. She simply bowed and handed a white candle to each mourner in silence.
Yvonne, always scheming, waited for a quiet moment. Once the stream of visitors slowed, she pulled Donald aside.
“What about the five percent stake your mom left? You’re not really planning to give that to her, are you?”
Donald paused, uneasy. “We’ll talk about this later. Did you see her eyes just now? Look at the way she’s looking at us–creeps me out. I can’t even look at her directly.”
