Under the Veil I Rule (Amara) novel Chapter 588

Finnian set down his utensils and glanced at him. "You never visit unless you need something. I knew you didn't suddenly show up for dinner just to see us. I should have known this was why."

He was mocking Andrew for never visiting his own father unless he had an agenda.

Andrew rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "I've just been busy lately, haven't I? I've been meaning to come see Dad. It just so happens that I needed to talk to you about this, and visit Dad at the same time."

It was a flimsy excuse, but Finnian seemed determined to press the point. "Do you even believe that yourself?"

That was a direct blow to Andrew's pride. He let out a few loud laughs to cover his embarrassment, but his expression had already soured.

Finnian ignored him completely and stood up. "I'm heading back," he said to Amara and Mr. Kevin Everly, and then he left.

Amara and Mr. Kevin Everly had already finished eating. They certainly weren't going to stay and keep Andrew company, so they also got up and left.

Finding himself alone in the empty dining room, Andrew rubbed his nose, unfazed. He stood up and went to his own room.

Since it was already late, he couldn't be bothered to go back home and decided to stay the night at the estate. Unlike his wife, he wasn't banned from the house, so he could stay as long as he liked.

He took a shower and, with a towel wrapped around his waist, lay on the bed and scrolled through his phone. He decided to chat with Fiona. He hadn't been in touch with her for a couple of days, and he actually missed her a little.

"So you finally decided to call me."

As soon as the video connected, Fiona said, "I was starting to think you'd forgotten all about me..."

Though her words were accusatory, her tone held no hint of blame; it was pure flirtation.

Andrew chuckled. "I could forget anyone, but I could never forget you. I've been crazy about you for over twenty years. How could I ever forget..."

As Fiona listened to Andrew's words, a daring idea sparked in her mind like a flash of lightning.

Her heart began to pound with a mixture of excitement, nervousness, and a touch of fear.

But after a moment's thought, she made up her mind. She gave Andrew an especially suggestive smile. "How about... I come over to see you now?"

At first, Andrew didn't quite register what she said. When he did, he was incredulous. "You want to come to my family's house to see me? Right now?"

Fiona's lips curved into a smile.

She was fifty years old this year, but she had taken excellent care of herself and looked to be in her early forties. When she didn't smile, there wasn't a single crow's-foot to be seen, and even when she did, only faint lines appeared. She was still a very attractive woman.
