Since arriving at the banquet hall, Finnian had worn a blank expression, but now, as he stared coldly at Keith, his gaze was icy and intense—a rare display of emotion for him.
Everyone suddenly recalled the rumors: Finnian was said to be in love with Amara and had even saved her life several times... These memories made them ponder.
Now, when people looked between Finnian and Amara, their glances grew more meaningful and curious.
Keith took Amara’s hand, kissed it gently, and said, “We never broke up.”
As he spoke, he looked down at Amara with deep affection in his eyes.
Amara knew Keith was only helping her to prevent her from losing face in public. She felt a little helpless, but kept a faint smile on her lips.
Word of her pregnancy had already spread, and as Finnian’s ex-wife, she was sure there were people here tonight just waiting to see her embarrassed. But with Keith standing up to defend her, no one would dare ridicule her.
Seeing all of this, Finnian’s expression twisted with anger.
He quickly lowered his head, trying to hide his reaction, but people around them had already started whispering.
“This engagement dinner just keeps getting more interesting. Finnian’s feelings for Amara are so mysterious, and her relationship with Keith is just as complicated. Did they really break up or not?”
“Who knows? If they didn't, does that mean Keith is about to become a father?”
“This is supposed to be Finnian and Liliana’s engagement party, but Finnian hasn’t said a single word to Liliana all night—he hasn’t even glanced at her. Does he not like her at all?”
“It sure doesn’t look like he does. Just look at the way he looks at Amara... now that’s something.”
Looking up, Amelia was startled to see her strict mother-in-law standing before her. “Mother, I—”
*Smack!* Her mother-in-law slapped her across the face. “What were you just doing? Were you trying to provoke Amara?”
“Are you deaf? Didn’t you hear Mr. Kevin Everly say that Amara is his god-granddaughter? With a status like that, do you really think she’s someone you can afford to offend? Useless! I should never have brought you here tonight!”
Amelia’s mother-in-law, Mrs. Walker, said angrily.
Amara has such a high status? But she’s just a woman pregnant out of wedlock! Amelia was furious, clutching her burning cheek as tears welled up in her eyes.
Ever since she married into the Walker family, she hadn’t had a single good day. Her mother-in-law set new rules for her every day, and her husband ignored her completely. It was like living decades in the past. When would this life ever come to an end?
