Amara bit her lip, tempted for a moment to throw the photo Liliana had sent at Finnian, just as Elysia had hurled her phone at Dorian earlier.

But on second thought, she realized there was really no need.

Elysia and Dorian were still married; Elysia had every right to confront her husband that way.

But she and Finnian didn’t have any real connection—let alone a relationship. Finnian embracing Liliana was none of her business, and she had no grounds to question him about it.

So she said coldly, “It’s nothing. I just don’t want to see you.”

Finnian fixed his gaze on Amara. “Why don’t you want to see me?”

There was a hint of hurt in his voice.

What had happened? Just days ago, he could tell that Amara wasn’t as resistant toward him as before; now it felt like their relationship had suddenly regressed by a hundred steps.

Amara shut her eyes for a moment and replied, her tone icy: “I just don’t. I don’t need a reason. Besides, didn’t I tell you before that we shouldn’t see each other anymore? You should go, Mr. Everly.”

She could more or less guess why Finnian had come to the hospital—he’d probably heard from Dorian’s side that Dorian had stormed in to find Elysia and was worried something might happen between the two of them.

And Finnian really had come because of Dorian, but he hadn’t expected to run into Amara first—let alone see Amara being embraced by Keith.

He’d always known that things between Amara and Keith weren’t truly over, but knowing it and actually seeing them together were two very different things.

Finnian stared intently at Amara, his eyes trembling ever so slightly.

For someone usually so strong and self-controlled, that flicker of vulnerability was almost heartbreaking. Amara immediately lowered her head, refusing to be swayed by his look.

She kept repeating to herself how terrible he was, how many times he’d lied to her, how much pain he’d caused her…
