Finnian had stated he felt absolutely nothing for Liliana outside of gratitude. When she first read the post, she believed him.
But now, recalling the photo Liliana had sent her days earlier, doubt crept back in.
Would a man embrace a woman solely out of gratitude?
Was it possible that while he didn't love Liliana, he still harbored some complicated affection for her?
The thought brought the suffocating pain rushing back.
Then she remembered Elysia's advice to terminate the pregnancy, warning that the child would tie her to Finnian forever. Every word Elysia said was right; she was truly looking out for her best interests.
Amara touched her stomach. "Ely, let me think about it for another couple of days."
She knew very well that her ultimate decision would likely be to not keep the baby, but making that choice was agonizing. She wanted a brief buffer period, which was why she asked for a few days.
Elysia nodded. "Take your time. Think it over carefully."
After chatting with her best friend, Amara felt significantly more relaxed. Her phone suddenly rang. It was Kevin. She answered, "Kevin."
"Ama, do you have some free time right now?" Kevin's voice echoed through the speaker. "Do you want to come see me?"
Amara felt an instant pang of guilt. She had practically forgotten about him over the past few days. Even if she was too busy to visit, she should have at least called to check in.
"I have time," she quickly replied. "I'll come over right now."
"Great, I'll be waiting for you."
Amara was slightly surprised. "You didn't know about this before?" She had assumed he had known all along.
Kevin shook his head.
"I knew a girl saved his life once. But when the accident happened, I was on a business trip overseas. Bad weather kept me from rushing back in time, and by the time I returned, he was already discharged."
"I asked him if he had properly compensated the girl. He told me he bought her family a house and a car as a reward, and gave them a large sum of money."
"I checked and saw he had given her more than enough, so I let it go and didn't pry further. I never expected that person to be Liliana."
Kevin sighed deeply. He had always looked down on Liliana, finding it incredibly baffling that his grandson was so fixated on her.
