He had originally planned to use this morning as a teaching moment if Melody threw a tantrum, showing her what behavior was unacceptable.

But today, she was just as polite as ever, actively greeting him, asking about his health, and even sharing her breakfast with him.

His daughter hadn't given him a single excuse to discipline her. If anything, she was acting like an absolute angel.

It left Julian at a complete loss on how to clean up the mess he had made.

He had set the cold tone, and now he had no idea how to gracefully step down from it.

Elara was still firing off sarcastic remarks, but even so, she kept herself incredibly restrained in front of their daughter, refusing to utter a single bad word about him.

She was strictly adhering to the unspoken rule that adult issues shouldn't involve the children, ensuring they weren't dragged into toxic disputes.

Julian cast a deep look at the mother and daughter across the table before picking up the egg and taking a bite.

After breakfast, Elara bundled Melody into her coat and pulled out her phone to hail a ride on an app.

Julian walked over, holding his car keys with his overcoat draped over his arm. "Let's go. I'll drop you off at school."

Since there was a free ride available, Elara wasn't going to argue. She immediately canceled her rideshare request.

Melody, however, was absolutely thrilled. "Wow! Are you not busy today, Dad?"

"Are you going to drop me off at school every morning from now on?"

She bounced around him in circles, practically bubbling with joy.

Julian looked down at his daughter and gently squeezed her outstretched little hand. "Yeah, I'll try my best."

"Ah." Melody wasn't so easily fooled, and her face instantly fell in disappointment. "Are you still super busy with work?"

"Yes."

"Oh. Okay then."

"You forgot your mittens!"

Finnian Fletcher intercepted Young Mr. Vance's probing gaze for the umpteenth time. Unable to take it anymore, he offered his boss a highly helpless shake of his head.

"I just checked, and we still haven't received any related whistleblower reports."

Sebastian Vance casually withdrew his gaze, but the deep crease between his brows remained firmly in place.

What the hell was going on?

Elara was a brilliant woman. The moment she saw the documents regarding that shell company, Vanguard Strategic, she should have immediately realized what Julian was trying to pull.

She had been sitting on those files for days now. Why hadn't she made a move?

Was her hesitation a sign that she still loved Julian and couldn't bear to file for divorce?

Or was she using the evidence to blackmail him, desperately trying to force him back into her arms?

The more Sebastian thought about it, the more violently frustrated he became.
