Since Meredith had already made a promise, Maddox didn't press further. The rest was up to the couple to resolve on their own.

Having lived together for over a decade, Meredith knew how to read Maddox perfectly.

Seeing his attitude soften, she knew the matter was settled for now. She hurriedly suggested, "The doctor said you need to get to bed early. It's getting late, so let's head back."

Maddox grunted in agreement, leaning on his cane as he stood up.

Before leaving, he walked over to Elara and Melody. He stared at Elara's exhausted, pained face—she was clearly biting back her grievances—and sighed softly. "If you need anything from now on, call me directly."

It was a significant promise from the patriarch.

Like a child who had suffered a massive wrong and finally found a grown-up's support, Elara's eyes welled with tears. "Thank you, Maddox," she said gratefully.

Maddox grunted, patted Melody's head, and turned to leave.

Sebastian Vance stepped forward to support him.

Maddox handed his cane to Meredith and let his grandson guide him. "Are you heading back?"

"Yeah," Sebastian said softly. "My grandfather said he needed to talk to me about something. I have to go back to the old estate tonight."

Maddox frowned. "What couldn't wait until tomorrow? Why does it have to be tonight?"

Sebastian smiled playfully. "Maybe he thinks it sets a better mood for a serious talk."

Maddox chuckled, lightly slapping the back of Sebastian's hand. "You're the head of the family now. Show a little decorum."

Sebastian didn't miss a beat. "You prefer me this way, don't you?"

Maddox didn't reply.

He honestly did prefer Sebastian's lively, open nature. Even if he was a bit mischievous, it was infinitely better than being completely lifeless.

And he had Elara to thank for that.

Thinking back to how fiercely she had defended herself against Meredith earlier, Maddox let out another long sigh. "You..." he murmured meaningfully. "Be careful not to push things too far. Know when to stop before you make everyone miserable."

Pretending not to understand, Sebastian merely offered a careless smirk and stayed silent.

After seeing off the last of the guests, Elara, Jocelyn, and the staff began cleaning up. Melody eagerly pitched in to help.

By the time they finished, everyone headed to their rooms to rest.

It was past nine o'clock when Julian finally returned.

Elara stood up, helping her carry the gifts.

From beginning to end, neither of them spared Julian a single glance.

He had anticipated this. Brushing it off, Julian stood up to silently help them clean up.

But the moment his hand brushed against a snow globe, a piercing shriek tore through the room.

"Ah!"

Melody screamed at the top of her lungs, putting everything she had into the sound to stop him from touching her things.

"Don't touch my stuff!"

Roaring like a furious little beast, Melody lunged at Julian, shoving him backward with all her might.

"Don't touch my things!"

"You're not allowed in my room!"

"I hate you!"
