As she kept talking, she layered on the guilt, her voice trembling as she began wiping away more imaginary tears. "Look at you. I just poured my heart out, and you didn't hear a single word. You claim you're doing this for my own good, but it hasn't even been five minutes and you've already dismissed everything I said. How am I supposed to feel secure with you?"

Julian: "..."

Why was she crying again?

Was Elara always this prone to tears?

Before Julian could process the dramatic shift in her behavior, Elara launched into another guilt-inducing tirade.

"If this were the past, if I asked for shares and voting rights, you would have agreed without a second thought. But now? I've exhausted myself explaining my motives, and you're still treating me like some kind of hostile threat, refusing to budge."

"Yesterday, you swore nothing was going on with Vivian. After you explained yourself, did I interrogate you? No, I backed off and trusted you. So why can't you extend me the exact same courtesy?"

"Do you even realize why I'm suddenly demanding equity and voting rights? You've completely shattered my sense of security! Am I wrong for trying to protect myself and our daughter?"

"If you hadn't spent the last few weeks ignoring us, ignoring my calls, ghosting my texts, and bailing on Melody when she was sick and on her birthday... do you really think I'd be pushed to this extreme?"

Elara kept her head bowed. Her long, dark hair fell forward, completely shadowing her face, masking her calculating expression. The only visible sign of her 'devastation' was the slight trembling of her shoulders, selling the illusion that she was sobbing uncontrollably.

"I regret it so much. I never should have given up my career."

"If I hadn't quit, if I was still practicing law, we’d still have common ground. Maybe then you’d actually be willing to involve me in the firm. I could have protected you legally!"

"But now? I've been out of the game for four years. I'm completely isolated from the real world. I've turned into some clueless, pathetic housewife..."

"But I only did it for you! For Melody! For our family!"

"Melody's condition was so severe back then, no nanny could handle it, and your mother flat-out refused to help! I tried juggling everything, and within two weeks, I ended up in the hospital! You couldn't sleep because Melody was screaming all night, your dark circles were practically bruised into your skin! If I hadn't sacrificed my career to take over completely, would you have been able to sleep? Would Ark Solutions even exist today?"

Elara immediately dialed the unreasonableness up to a ten. "Then explain it to me! It's literally just a voting right on a piece of paper! Why are you guarding it like your life depends on it?"

"Are you terrified that if I get any real power, I'll steal Ark Solutions from you? Or are you scared I'll use it to drain your bank accounts?"

"..."

"But Julian, did you forget? We are legally married. Your assets are my assets. If we ever actually end up in divorce court, everything is getting split right down the middle anyway."

As she delivered the final blow, Elara’s rapid-fire hysterics suddenly slowed to a deadly, calm crawl. She locked eyes with him, tracking every micro-expression on his face.

She stared until Julian couldn't handle the suffocating pressure and tried to look away again. Then, as if a horrific realization had just dawned on her, she whispered.

"Or did you really step out on me, and now you're terrified that as the at-fault party, I'll take more than half?"
