Jocelyn didn't understand.
Elara explained, "I just signed the agreement with him and successfully registered as a shareholder of Ark. If I immediately turn around and file for divorce, it's too easy for him to use that against me, claiming I set up a calculated trap."
Jocelyn finally understood. "So if you wait a bit longer to file, he won't be suspicious?"
"He still will be," Elara said honestly. "But it minimizes the suspicion."
Mainly, she wanted to see Julian's face when he thought he had her cornered, only to realize he had absolutely nothing.
Of course, Elara kept that little vindictive thought to herself.
Hearing her daughter say this and seeing how completely in control she looked, Jocelyn relaxed, even if she didn't grasp all the legal details.
"Alright, you know how to handle these things better than I do, so I won't ask too many questions. Just manage it well yourself."
Jocelyn thought for a moment, then asked, "Is there anything I can do to help?"
Elara considered it seriously. "I might be pretty busy for a while. If you could just help me look after Melody, that would be great."
Thinking of Julian's behavior that morning, Elara added, "Also, Julian might be home a lot more often during this time. Just bear with it and don't expose your hand too early."
Jocelyn was incredibly confident about this. "Don't worry, this is my specialty."
Working as a nanny for wealthy families for so many years meant that, aside from competence, the most important skills were tight lips and endless patience. No matter how absurd or intriguing things got, she knew how to force it down and never show a hint of curiosity that might upset her employers.
When it came to playing dumb, Jocelyn believed few could beat her.
Elara was amused by her mother confidently patting her chest. She pulled her in for some more heartfelt chat, and they discussed what to have for dinner.
As Elara expected, Julian came home again today.
