Julian had his lawyers review the terms of the Postnuptial Property Agreement. He knew exactly what it entailed.

He had only dared to sign it because he was absolutely certain his scheme would work. He had planned to devalue the company so drastically that he could simply buy the shares back at a seemingly reasonable, heavily discounted price.

Sure, it would have cost a little more than he initially wanted to part with, but at the time, he needed to placate Elara and buy himself some breathing room. All things considered, it had seemed like a worthwhile trade-off.

But man proposes, God disposes.

His brilliant plan went up in flames. Vanguard Strategic was reported for fraud, and Meredith Beckett narrowly avoided a prison sentence.

Not only did his plot fail, but it also alerted and infuriated Maddox Beckett. Now, Julian was left with absolutely nothing to show for it—and he still had to pay a premium to buy back Elara's equity.

That was exactly why he tried to pull a fast one in the settlement draft.

He knew full well how insulting his terms were, but he had spent weeks feeding Elara lies about the company's bleak financial state. He figured that if he bundled the buyout with the divorce settlement, he could at least minimize his financial hemorrhage.

Unfortunately, Elara wasn't buying it.

"We signed a binding agreement and registered it properly. The ten percent I hold in Ark Solutions is mine alone. It is not marital property, and it has nothing to do with dividing our shared assets."

Ignoring his stunned silence, she continued, "If you're trying to mix the two, then there's no point in negotiating."

Filing for divorce was her safety net. If she could secure what she was rightfully owed through negotiation and skip the grueling litigation process, it would save her a massive headache.

Of course, that only applied to dividing the assets. It didn't change her plans to sue Vivian Winthrop, claw back the squandered funds, or handle everything else.

Checking the time, she added, "You can either sign a settlement based on my terms and split everything evenly, or we can keep dragging this out—assuming you're fine with Ms. Winthrop being a forever mistress."

"The choice is yours."
