Even though the savory broth was perfectly suited to his palate, the sheer volume was simply too much for him to handle.
If he ate until he felt sick, Elara would only worry about him again.
"Oh!"
Elara froze for a few seconds before a look of deep guilt washed over her face. She hurriedly began scooping more of the beef and pasta out of his bowl.
"I'm so sorry! I just figured since you live alone now and you couldn't sleep last night, you must be starving. I wanted to make sure you had enough."
In the past, whenever Julian suffered from insomnia and stayed up all night, he would absolutely gorge himself the next morning.
Julian used to claim that the exhaustion of insomnia was agonizing—being desperate for sleep but unable to drift off, yet too fatigued to get out of bed. It was a miserable drain on his physical and mental energy, and if he didn't consume a massive breakfast to compensate, he couldn't function for the rest of the day.
Elara had experienced insomnia herself, but she handled it entirely differently.
If she couldn't sleep, she got up to read, study, or tackle work. If she got hungry, she ate a light snack. Otherwise, she'd put on a movie to pass the time until she drained her excess energy, allowing her to crash immediately when she got back in bed.
She hadn't fully considered the different ways people processed exhaustion. Given Sebastian’s age and athletic build, she had subconsciously applied Julian’s old habits to him.
She had assumed that since Sebastian had struggled to sleep, he needed a heavy, comforting meal to replenish his energy.
Instead, her well-meaning gesture had nearly given him a stomach ache.
Feeling increasingly embarrassed, Elara cleared away the excess food. She returned to the table, pulling out the chair next to Melody. Resting her elbows on the wood, she propped her chin in her hands and watched Sebastian.
Sebastian ate his pasta at a leisurely pace, completely unbothered by the fact that both mother and daughter were staring at him.
Once he was mostly finished, Elara finally spoke up. "Do you have any other dietary restrictions or specific habits I should know about?"
