Perhaps because she was reminiscing about their childhood, Sebastian’s mood visibly brightened.

"Once is still washing," Sebastian argued with absolute conviction. "You can't just invalidate my dishwashing history just because I only did it once as a kid, right?"

Elara: "..."

It wasn't like she was trying to rewrite history.

Sensing the playful banter winding down, Sebastian offered a good-natured smile and explained, "Don't worry. I won't break your plates this time."

Elara wasn't convinced. She stared at him in utter silence.

Sebastian let out a helpless laugh. His gaze drifted down to Melody, who was still sitting in her chair, and he practically begged, "Melody is watching. Save me a little pride, okay?"

Elara: "..."

If she let him save face now, and he smashed a plate in two minutes, wouldn't that be infinitely more embarrassing?

Elara didn't say a word, but her face radiated pure skepticism.

Amused, Sebastian closed the distance between them. Reaching out with his free hand, he lightly patted Elara on the top of her head—exactly the way she used to comfort him when he was small—before swiftly pulling his hand back before she could fully process the gesture.

"I cooked for myself all the time abroad. I cleaned the counters, scrubbed the dishes, all of it. Just trust me."

Elara was still hung up on the phantom feeling of his hand on her hair, but his words yanked her back to reality. She instinctively asked, "Did you not have anyone looking after you?"

Hadn't he gone abroad in middle school or high school?

He was so young, and having been pampered his entire life, would the older generations really let him live completely unassisted?

"I had staff," Sebastian answered honestly. "It was basically the same setup I have now. I like my privacy, so I didn't let them live with me."

Elara understood.
