Panic flared in Julian's chest. He instinctively loosened his grip and shot a nervous glance toward Elara and Melody.
Elara and Jocelyn were busy packing their bags, and Melody was fluttering around them, helping out. For the moment, none of them were looking in their direction.
Julian exhaled a quiet breath of relief and glared back at Sebastian. "You know exactly what I want to say."
Before Sebastian could respond, Julian quickly pressed on. "Are you sure you want to have this conversation right here?"
If Sebastian wanted to issue warnings, Julian could play that game too.
He was using Elara and Melody as leverage, threatening to expose Sebastian's true colors.
He wanted to pursue Elara, didn't he?
Well, Julian would be happy to ruin that for him.
If he dared!
But there was very little Sebastian didn't dare to do.
Standing a few inches taller than Julian, Sebastian lowered his gaze, scanning the older man with a careless, almost predatory scrutiny. Then, his lips curled into a smirk. "Sure."
Julian froze, completely blindsided by the immediate, fearless agreement. He hadn't expected Sebastian to be so unbothered by the risk of being exposed, leaving Julian momentarily speechless.
In that brief window of silence, Sebastian shifted the kite, pressing the edge of it directly against Julian's wrist.
He used the tip of the dragonfly's wing. It was a cheap bamboo kite with a poorly finished, jagged frame. To push Julian away with it required force, and that sharp bamboo digging into skin was bound to hurt.
Julian winced, but sheer stubbornness kept him from letting go entirely.
Sebastian's expression remained perfectly serene as he quietly escalated the unspoken contest of strength, pressing the bamboo harder into Julian's flesh.
