That alone could be overlooked. After all, not everyone could dedicate their entire life to a single person—Maddox himself had found love again more than a decade after his wife passed away, so he had no right to judge Julian on that front.

But at the very least, they had shared a marriage and brought Melody into the world. Any normal person would want an amicable split for the sake of the child's future.

Any decent human being would think that way.

Yet Julian, someone who was usually so intelligent, had become entirely irrational when it came to this.

For the sake of money, he had broken his vows, betrayed his former lover and daughter, and driven those he had already hurt into a desperate corner.

If Maddox hadn't investigated the situation himself and arranged legal counsel for Elara, he never would have known the boy he once thought so highly of could become so repulsive.

Was this even the Julian he knew?

It was as if he had been possessed.

Maddox found it incredibly hard to believe that a man in his thirties could suddenly become this unhinged.

"Julian."

Since the boy had been his family for over a decade, Maddox couldn't bring himself to be totally heartless, and he certainly didn't want him to live with crushing regret down the line. Unable to hold back, he warned, "Elara is the woman you loved for years and the mother of your daughter. Don't push her too far."

Julian clearly hadn't expected the sudden reprimand and froze.

Maddox gave him a heavy look and continued, "Melody is still your daughter. Are you planning to sever all ties with her after the divorce?"

"Furthermore, you know Melody's condition better than I do. She's far more vulnerable than most children and requires significantly more time and care."

"During those hardest years, it was Elara who took care of Melody and helped her through it."

"Ask yourself honestly—if you were in her shoes, could you have replaced Elara and cared for Melody just as well?"

Maddox had never been a nagging man, but today he had broken his own rule, rattling off a long lecture like an overbearing old man.

"Melody needs Elara to take care of her. She needs her mother far more than she needs you."

"If you scorch the earth now, do you plan to cut them out of your life forever?"

"If not, how exactly do you plan to face your child in the future?"

Julian was genuinely startled by the old man's sudden "nagging."

In his memory, Maddox had always been a man of few words with an intimidating presence. He rarely interfered, and when he did speak, it was just a few subtle hints. Whether anyone listened was their own problem.

This was the first time Julian had ever seen the old man act so aggressively human, and he found himself momentarily stunned, completely unsure of how to respond.

Maddox obviously saw right through his confusion and, having said his piece, fell silent.

Jolted back to reality, Julian hurriedly replied, "Yes, you're absolutely right."

Maddox said nothing.

His words sounded compliant, but his attitude was dripping with insincerity.

Maddox had said what he needed to say; it was up to Julian whether he listened.

The old man stared at him intently for a moment longer before turning away.

Sensing the shift, Julian quickly added, "Thank you for the advice, Dad. I'll seriously consider it."
