After rushing back to the main estate bright and early to have breakfast with Maddox, Julian left The Beckett Manor utterly deflated and devoid of energy.

The moment Julian walked out the door, the manor's butler relayed the news to Sebastian.

In a single, brief sentence, devoid of any unnecessary exposition or personal commentary, he clearly outlined the catastrophic results of Julian's efforts and the old man's attitude.

"Understood."

Harrison Miller had just left the room, leaving Sebastian to open his steaming breakfast while pouring himself a cup of the hot coffee Harrison had brewed. "Keep me posted if anything else happens. I appreciate it."

The butler offered a polite sign-off and hung up.

Sebastian carried his coffee back to the dining table, set down his cup and phone, arranged his breakfast, took a few tasteless bites, and began sipping his coffee while scrolling through his phone.

The only social media app he bothered with was his messaging platform; he didn't even have a profile on any of the popular microblogging or short-video apps. Most of the time, he used his phone to process emails or catch up on the news.

Not wanting to be bogged down by work on the weekend, he finished the news and switched over to his social feed.

During his school years, Sebastian had juggled intense academics with rigorous corporate management training. His schedule was always packed to the brim, leaving virtually no time for personal socializing. As a result, his feed was dominated by business partners, flooded with either overly pretentious posts or obnoxious flexes. There was honestly nothing worth looking at.

Yet Sebastian had developed a habit of checking his feed at least twice a day, morning and night.

All because Elara would occasionally post updates.

Unlike the pseudo-intellectual captions and curated photos cluttering his feed, Elara's posts were wonderfully simple: just a photo and a date, or perhaps a brief, practical review of somewhere they had eaten, drank, or played.

They were simple records of her daily life with Melody.

And Sebastian absolutely adored looking at those slices of life.

Since it was the weekend and there was no Shoreline Preschool, Sebastian assumed he wouldn't see an update from Elara that morning. He scrolled a few more times, fully intending to close the app, when Elara's profile picture suddenly popped up at the bottom of the screen.

Sebastian's thumb froze before he quickly swiped down to open her post.

Beneath a caption that read "A beautiful Sunday," Elara had shared a photo of The Family Watercolor.

The painting featured three adults and a child. The tallest figure, a man, was flying a kite with the little girl, while the mother and grandmother watched from the sidelines with snacks, ready to feed them at a moment's notice.
