Sebastian was pouring tea.

It was a fresh, steaming brew prepared by the tea master just moments ago.

Sebastian had noticed that Kendrick hadn't taken a single sip since sitting down. Figuring the old man must be parched after ten minutes of talking, he had taken the teapot to pour a cup himself.

The stares of over a dozen people didn't slow his movements for a second. It was as if he hadn't even heard Penelope call his name.

Only after the tea was perfectly poured did Sebastian respectfully offer the cup to the older man with both hands. "Grandfather. To soothe your throat."

Kendrick met his eyes, staying silent for several long seconds before slowly taking the hot tea and taking a small sip.

Sebastian followed up smoothly. "Is the temperature alright?"

Kendrick hummed in agreement. "It's fine."

"Good."

Satisfied, Sebastian poured a cup for himself and began to sip it slowly.

He completely ignored the audience around him, utterly unfazed by the burning stares of the elder generation.

Left hanging in the silence, Penelope's mother looked even more mortified, but she was completely powerless against Sebastian.

Putting aside her bitter history with him, he was now the head of the family, and her position was a complete joke. She had zero right to demand his attention.

But standing there making a fool of herself in front of the elders couldn't go on either.

She shot a desperate, pleading look at Samuel, begging her husband to intervene.

Whether Samuel noticed her silent cry for help or not, the glare he leveled at his son was burning with genuine rage.

"Penelope is talking to you."

Flaunting his parental authority, Samuel leaned past Kendrick and delivered a cold reprimand. "Is this how you were taught Vance family manners?"

A father disciplining his son was a basic law of nature.

It was true in ordinary families, and even more so in a rigidly traditional household like the Vances.

The only problem was that Samuel was an utter failure of a father. His son was now his boss, stripping him of any real right to lecture him.

Some of the onlookers found the scene unbearable, but they didn't dare interfere with the main family's drama, secretly shaking their heads and looking away.

Most of them, however, were thrilled to watch the trainwreck.

As members of the branch families, they usually just had to shut up and take orders. When did they ever get to critique the main house?

Now that the main family was airing out its own dirty laundry, nobody wanted to look away.

Especially when it involved the high-and-mighty new boss.

Over the past six months, Sebastian had aggressively purged both the corporation and the family ranks. Plenty of people sitting in that room were still furious over his ruthless cuts, hoping to use this gala to complain to Kendrick.

To their absolute delight, before they could even open their mouths, his own father was pulling the trigger.

They couldn't wait to see how the young boss handled his deadbeat dad.

Sebastian didn't even spare Samuel a glance.
