"Elara." Julian pinched the bridge of his nose in exhaustion. "I didn't come here to fight with you."
"No matter how much you hate me, or how deeply you despise me, it doesn't change the absolute fact that I am Melody's father."
"The divorce is between us. It has nothing to do with Melody. I am not running from my responsibilities. I am going to share the burden with you, and I am going to spoil her exactly like I used to..."
"If you actually loved Melody, you would realize that your 'love' and 'responsibility' are nothing but a suffocating burden to her."
Elara cut him off effortlessly. "And for the record, I don't need you to share any burden. We can't stomach your help."
Julian gritted his teeth. "You... don't be so arrogant. You have no idea what the future holds."
"And what makes you so delusional that you think I'll ever need you?"
Elara shot back, "Look at yourself. What possible value do you offer that Melody and I could ever need?"
Julian's face contorted, but he couldn't form a single argument against Elara's vicious logic. He just glared at her in seething silence for a long moment before bitterly choking out, "Then who do you need?"
Elara completely ignored him.
"Sebastian?" Julian pressed aggressively.
Elara gave him a surprised look, then turned away, still refusing to indulge his madness.
To Julian, her silence was a roaring confirmation. A blind, explosive fury shot straight to his brain, and he raised his voice into a vicious shout. "I knew it!"
"You pretend you don't need me because I betrayed you, but you've been sleeping with Sebastian this whole time! You had your backup plan lined up perfectly, which is why you were arrogant enough to hire Gillian Thorne to ruin me and steal my money!"
When rage hijacked the brain, all logic disintegrated. The agonizing thought of Elara and Sebastian hooking up behind his back while she played the innocent victim drove Julian to spew unhinged poison.
"When did it start? That bastard seduced you first, didn't he?"
