The moment Dolly finished speaking, Ryan lifted his head and shot her a look. “Do you have to be this nosy?”
Dolly only smiled wider. “Can you blame me? Ever since you started seeing someone, you’ve been acting like a completely different man. I almost don’t recognize you anymore.”
Ava glanced at Ryan’s sharply defined profile, then turned back to Dolly. “I’m younger than he is, so maybe he just takes a little more care of me.”
That earned a loud burst of laughter from Dolly.
She laughed so hard she nearly teared up, one hand pressing lightly to her stomach. “Him? Taking care of someone?”
The second those words came out, even Soren and the others at the table could not hold back their laughter.
Dolly finally caught her breath and looked at Ava again, her eyes full of amusement. “Now I get it. You’re sweet, thoughtful, and you know exactly what to say. No wonder he lets you wrap him around your finger.”
Even as she spoke, she had not given up. With a fork in hand, she took another bite and tried once more. “Girl, are you really sure you don’t want to enter the entertainment industry? A face like yours was made for it.”
Her tone turned even more regretful. “If you debuted, you’d blow up across the entire interstellar world.”
Ava could only laugh helplessly. “Dolly, I’m really not interested.”
Ryan’s face quickly darkened. “Dolly, are you really trying to steal my wife right now? My Ava isn’t going into entertainment.”
If Ava ever stepped into that world, he would be inviting trouble. Who knew how many men might start to vie for her attention then? He was not crazy; there’s no way he would have created so many rivals for himself on purpose.
After repeatedly confirming that Ava had no intention of entering the industry, Dolly ultimately gave up, though she felt some regret. She poured herself a drink, took a slow sip, and sighed. “What a pity. You were truly born for it.”
The meal stretched on for almost two hours.

By the time they left the restaurant, it was very late.

Soren assisted Ryan into the car and then sat in the driver’s seat. As they drove off, he addressed Ava from the front, “I’ll take him to Crescent Bay. Sorry for the trouble tonight, Ms. Morren.”
Ava looked at Ryan. His face was flushed, his eyes closed, and he sat quietly, leaning back without any sound.
“Is he really that bad at drinking?” she asked.
Soren looked at Ryan in the rearview mirror before answering, “He’s not great with alcohol, as he flushes easily, so he generally doesn’t drink much. Tonight, he was probably just too happy and ended up drinking more than usual.”
Then he added, “Still, he handles alcohol pretty well. Even when he’s drunk, he doesn’t cause trouble, and he definitely doesn’t go wild.”
Ava gave a soft nod. “I see.”
A moment later, she looked back at Ryan and added, “Mr. Goodman, please help me get him upstairs later. He’s too heavy for me to carry alone.”
Once they reached Crescent Bay, Soren helped Ryan upstairs.
The elevator went straight into the apartment, and after entering, Soren led Ryan to the couch and gently lowered him onto it.
Only then did Ava get a proper look at the place.
It was spacious, quiet, and tastefully decorated.
She turned to Soren. “This apartment…”
“This is Ryan’s property,” Soren explained. “He bought it a few years back. He doesn’t stay here frequently, but he stops by occasionally.”
Then he pressed the elevator button. “I’ll leave now.”
Ava gave him a small wave. “Bye, Mr. Goodman.”
Once Soren left, silence settled over the apartment.
Ava went into the kitchen first and opened the refrigerator.

Ava made another round of the apartment before heading into the kitchen. She boiled some water, washed a cup, and poured half a cup into it to cool.
By the time she came back out, the living room was as quiet as ever. The place was kept unusually clean, probably because someone came by regularly to tidy it.
She crossed over to the couch, sat down next to Ryan, and gently patted his face. “Ryan, wake up a little.”
His brows drew together faintly.
Sensing something touch his face, he quickly raised a hand, grabbed her fingers, and pressed them to his chest.
Ava looked at their joined hands, then poked his cheek with her other hand. “Ryan, wake up.”
When that did not work, she lightly pinched his nose. “Come on. Wake up already.”
This time, Ryan opened his eyes.
Ava called again, “Ryan.”
His gaze was unfocused and dazed. It took him a few seconds for recognition to surface. “Ava?”
She looked at him carefully.
His eyes were open now, but he still appeared somewhat lost and blank, almost endearing. He clearly hadn’t fully woken up yet.
Drunk Ryan felt unusually different, almost like a large dog.
Unlike his usual wild, unruly side, the man now lying on the couch appeared much more obedient.
