Chapter 367 No Excuse for Violence

“Should we call the cops?” Ava pressed.

“I’ll handle it,” Sebastian replied. “You head back to your dorm.”

Ava shook her head. “I’ll wait for the ambulance. She’s my friend.”

Sebastian took off his suit jacket and draped it over Queenie, covering her in an attempt to spare her some dignity.

They didn’t have to wait long before the ambulance arrived. The medical staff rushed upstairs, carefully lifting Queenie onto a stretcher. Ava followed them straight into the ambulance. Sebastian looked at her and said, “I told you, I’ll take care of everything.”

Ava didn’t respond. She just looked at Queenie lying there in silence-the same girl who had once smiled at her and said, “I’m Queenie Yates.” Now she lay there, pale and motionless.

“Professor,” Ava said softly, “I just want to stay with her. She’s a war orphan. I don’t know what she’s been through, but she shouldn’t have to lie here alone like this.”

Sebastian let out a quiet breath. “Fine. Come along. I’ll notify Ethan.”

They arrived at the hospital quickly, and the doctors rushed Queenie into emergency treatment. Ava sat outside on the bench, her heart twisting in anxiety, the same helpless panic she’d felt years ago when her grandfather had been hospitalized.

After receiving Sebastian’s call, Ethan arrived at the hospital without delay. The moment Ava saw him, she ran straight toward him and threw herself into his arms.

Ethan rested a hand on her head, his voice gentle. “She’ll be okay. Let’s wait and hear what the doctor says.”

He gave Sebastian a brief nod. “What’s the situation?”

“Not clear yet. But from my experience… it doesn’t look good.” Sebastian met his gaze, and though neither of them said it outright, they both understood the implication.

“Have you called the police?” Ethan asked.

“Not yet. Let’s hear from the doctor first.”

It took a long time before the doctor finally came out. He glanced at the people waiting outside and asked, “Who’s the patient’s family?”

“I’m her teacher,” Sebastian said. “Doctor, how is my student?”

The doctor looked at him before saying bluntly, “You should call the police. Have you contacted her family?”

“She’s a war orphan, Sebastian replied.

The doctor’s tone softened slightly at that. “Come inside. I’ll explain her condition in detail.”

Ethan went to report the case to the police while Sebastian and Ava followed the doctor into his office.

“Facial soft tissue injuries… multiple bruises… signs of severe sexual abuse…”

The police arrived quickly. But since the victim was still unconscious, it was impossible to take a statement for the time being.

“Queenie’s records are in,” Ethan said, glancing at the information he had just received. “At five years old, her entire family died in the war against mutants-she was the sole survivor. The government later took. her in.

“When she was seven, she was adopted by Adam Yeager. Queenie’s two current husbands-one is Adam’s biological son, Rodney Yeager, and the other is Adam’s nephew, Jerome Keagan. Two years ago, she awakened her powers.”

Sebastian adjusted his glasses. “The Yeagers?”

Ethan nodded.

“That family is rotten to the core,” Sebastian said, rubbing his temples in disgust. “Every last one of them is vile.”

“Let’s wait for the DNA results from the police,” Ethan said calmly.

Ava had never heard Queenie talk about her family-let alone her husbands.

“Could it have been her husbands?” Ava’s anger surged. “The last time I saw her, at the mall, a man was dragging her around. She clearly didn’t want to go with him, but he forced her anyway. When I saw her again back at school, something felt off-she looked exhausted.”

At the time, she hadn’t thought much of it. But now, thinking back, that might have been when Queenie had already been hurt.

“We’ll wait until Queenie wakes up before saying anything,” Sebastian said. “If she needs legal assistance, I’ll represent her pro bono. You two should head back. I’ve already informed the school, and someone will come by later.”

At that, Ethan turned to Ava. “Let’s go. If you’re worried, you can come see her again tomorrow.”
