Chapter 50 See the Play to the End

Gary’s face turned bright red at once, his eyes darting away. “O-of course, Sharon. Trust didn’t even go out this afternoon-my parents can prove it.”

Please. That same ridiculous excuse again.

A faint, cold smile tugged at Sharon’s lips. “Look at you. Why are you so nervous?”

She pulled out a tissue and gently dabbed the sweat from his forehead. “You’re sweating.

Still shaken, Gary grabbed her hand and pulled it to his chest in a hurry. “I just don’t want overthinking. My love for you is real-everyone can see it! We promised to grow old toge You can’t doubt me, okay?”

Sharon pulled her hand away as if she’d been shocked, sinking back into the seat weakly. not. I told you before…”

Gary’s heart skipped a beat. “Told me what?”

Sharon turned to him, staring straight into his eyes. “If one day I find out you cheated on n if you have someone else outside…”

She lifted her right hand, pressing two fingers together and making a snip in the air. “I’ll sne in at midnight with a pair of scissors, lift the covers… and snip!”

A chill ran down Gary’s spine. He instinctively covered his lower body with his hands.

A second later, realizing it was a “joke,” he forced a smile and poked her forehead stiffly. “You love scaring me, you little troublemaker.”

Sharon’s eyes remained empty as she whispered softly, “You get scared so easily… you wouldn really be cheating, would you?”

Gary’s throat tightened, words stuck in his chest. He had nothing to say.

He looked at Sharon deeply, his eyes swirling with complicated emotions-guilt, panic, fear. Why does she seem so strange lately? Stranger and stranger. Could she have really found out something?

Anxious again, Gary quickly convinced himself. No, she couldn’t. If Sharon had found out, she wouldn’t be this calm. I’m just overthinking.

When the car passed Healing Heart Clinic, Gary got out to pick up the brewed medicine.

He returned with two big bags, rushing to explain as soon as he got in the car, like he was t to distance himself from something. “What a coincidence. Chloe’s medicine was brewed he too. She asked me to pick it up on the way.”

Sharon glanced at the bags, her voice calm and flat. “Yeah, real coincidence.”

Gary tested the waters again. “Sharon… you wouldn’t… mind, would you?”

A cold, thin smile curved Sharon’s lips. “You’re that afraid I’ll mind? Then… why don’t you ta her medicine back and tell her to pick it up herself?”

“I-it’s on the way,” Gary stammered, embarrassed by her question. “You’re always so generou know you won’t mind.”

Always so generous?

So I’m supposed to smile even when the thorn in my heart hurts like hell?

So he can cross my boundaries without a second thought, never caring how I feel?

She dug her nails into her palm, barely keeping her cool.

But thinking tomorrow was the end, suddenly everything felt… meaningless.

They love acting so much? I’ll play along, and see the play to the end.

Sharon lowered her eyes, her voice cold. “Drive. I’m tired.”

Tomorrow was the day the Colbert family officially adopted Mia.

When Sharon and Gary got home, the villa was bustling with activity.

Linda was in the living room, cheerfully calling relatives and friends at the top of her voice.

Chloe and Mary were packing candies. Chloe’s pale face wore a gentle, docile smile, and she glanced at Gary occasionally, her eyes shy and soft.

Robert was patiently helping Mia build Legos.

Sharon glanced at them faintly. The “happy family” scene made her eyes hurt. She greeted them and headed straight upstairs.

Closing her bedroom door, she finished her final packing.

The bedroom was already half-empty. Her favorite things had been sent away one by one.

Tomorrow, she’d only take a few clothes and personal toiletries.

Sharon kept only her toothbrush and towel, shoving everything else into her suitcase.

Finl

As she packed, Gary pushed the door open. Seeing the suitcase, he froze, rushing over to hol her shoulders.

“Sharon! What are you doing? Are you leaving? Where are you going?!”

He glanced around the bedroom instinctively. The shocking emptiness made him flustered.
