**TITLE: A Divorce 761**
Josephine hastily interjected, her voice laced with urgency. “Please, let me have a word with her first. If she finds out there’s a possibility of a sentence hanging over her head, she’ll become a bundle of nerves. You might struggle to calm her down once that realization sinks in.”
“I’ll arrange for her to meet you after I’ve had my conversation with her,” Gerald replied, his tone steady but thoughtful.
He nodded, a hint of agreement in his demeanor. “That’s exactly what I was thinking. I’ll leave it in your capable hands to have that essential discussion with her first.”
A flicker of doubt crossed Josephine’s face as she asked hesitantly, “But what if Aveline claims that I pushed Eileen into this?”
Gerald’s expression darkened slightly, his brow furrowing in concern. “She has no solid evidence. She can’t just throw around accusations without proof.”
“Unless…” Josephine’s heart raced, a knot forming in her stomach. “Unless what?”
“Unless Eileen decides to accuse you of orchestrating everything. If that happens, and Eileen makes a baseless claim, it could backfire spectacularly. The judge would likely view her in an even worse light, and her sentence would only grow harsher,” Gerald explained, his voice grave.
Josephine quickly interjected, her voice tinged with anxiety, “I sincerely hope Eily isn’t confused enough to think that falsely accusing me will somehow lighten her own punishment.”
Gerald’s frown deepened. “You must have a serious conversation with her. Be on guard; Vincent might teach Eileen that foolish trick.”
Feeling the weight of the situation pressing down on her, Josephine decided that she had lingered long enough and crafted an excuse to leave.
Gerald, noticing her troubled demeanor, offered to drive her home, understanding her mood was far from cheerful.
“No, thank you,” Josephine replied, shaking her head. “My mom and I have already moved out to stay hidden while Jacob is away.”
The two of them had taken refuge in a hotel, seeking solace away from the chaos of their lives.
Once back in the hotel room, Josephine relayed the events of the day to her mother, her voice trembling with worry.
Courtney, her frustration boiling over, slammed a glass down on the table, the sound shattering the tense silence. “Why can’t anything go right for us lately?” she exclaimed, her anger palpable.
Josephine’s heart sank further as she confessed, “Mom, I’m genuinely terrified that Eileen will turn on me and say I coerced her into this.”
Courtney’s expression tightened. “Perhaps we should find out how much hush money she might demand,” she suggested, her mind racing with possibilities.
“You should rest for now. Let me handle this,” Josephine replied, trying to take charge of the spiraling situation.
Retreating to her room, she picked up her phone and attempted to reach Marcus, but he didn’t answer.
Frustrated, she sent him a text, her fingers flying over the screen, 【Marcus, why do you keep ignoring my calls? Did I do something to upset you?】
Ignoring her, Marcus continued his packing, trying to focus on the task at hand.
Suddenly, Leona’s phone rang; it was Josephine calling.
Leona answered with a bright, “Hey, Josephine.”
At the sound of her name, Marcus’s head snapped around, a look of alarm crossing his face.
Noticing his reaction, Leona cast him a puzzled glance, but then recalled how he had berated her for attempting to set Josephine up with Xavier. She assumed he was simply irked by her continued friendship with Josephine.
She brushed off Marcus’s presence and listened as Josephine said, “Leona, are you at home?”
“Yeah, I’m here. What’s going on? Fancy grabbing a drink?”
Josephine chuckled lightly, her voice brightening. “Actually, Gerald and I are at the Velvet Club. We were hoping you’d join us for a drink, but Gerald mentioned you and your husband are heading to Mount Ardwood tomorrow.”
Leona felt a surge of annoyance just hearing about it. “Don’t even get me started. I didn’t want to go, but that guy Marcus is making me,” she grumbled, casting a pointed glare in Marcus’s direction.
From what he could hear of the conversation, it didn’t seem like Josephine was trying to stir up trouble for him, and a wave of relief washed over Marcus.

When is the novel ending? It’s so unnecessarily long… not a single intimacy or connection just fighting and bickering from the beginning to end...
