“Xavier, can you not bother me so early in the morning?

Let go.”

Xavier said patiently, “Warm up first.”

Aveline shook his hand off and walked toward the iron gate.

Xavier sighed and followed her, only to see Aveline starting to warm up outside the gate.

He looked at her and smiled, “Babe, you’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you?”

Aveline didn’t even bother to look at him, starting her warm–up exercises.

Xavier started doing them too.

When Aveline started running, he ran after her.

Sunset Hills Estate had only recently gone on sale, so not many owners had moved in. Most were retirees or people with vacation homes, so there weren’t many people around this early in the morning.

Xavier told Aveline where the landscaped garden was, but she ignored him, wanting to see the whole estate while she ran.

Xavier figured there wouldn’t be much traffic at this hour, so he let her be. He’d just have to keep an eye on her.

About an hour later, Aveline wanted to head back, but she couldn’t find her way.

Xavier didn’t realize it at first, but one look at her confused expression told him what was going on. He laughed and said:

“Follow me.”

Aveline pressed her lips together. She didn’t want to follow, but she had to.

When the two of them got back to their villa, they saw Rupert and the butler walking out of The White Crest Villa. Seeing them return from their run together, Rupert looked delighted.

Rupert nodded. “Morning. You went running with Xavier‘? That’s great. It’s good to get plenty of exercise.”

“Valentina and Mason are up too. We’re going to the gourmet street for breakfast in a bit.”

Aveline knew this was the itinerary for the next few days that Rupert and her maternal grandparents had planned last night during dinner in the private dining room at the hotel.

Since they had all come to Mount Ardwood together, she knew her maternal grandparents would naturally be spending time with the.

She said okay, then went back to The Blue Crest Villa.

Xavier wasn’t in a hurry to go back. He chatted with Rupert for a moment. “Did you sleep well last night?”

Rupert nodded. “Quite well.”

“It’s good that Aveline is letting you stay over there.”

Xavier gave a faint smile and said nothing.

He knew Rupert must have misunderstood and thought he and Aveline were sharing a room. If he knew they were sleeping in separate rooms, Rupert wouldn’t be saying “it’s good.”

He saw Amy coming out of The Blue Crest Villa, apparently with something to tell him, so he said to Rupert:

“Why don’t you walk around here for a bit? Don’t go too far.”

Then he went back to The White Crest Villa.

Amy followed him inside. “Mr. Beltran, that villa was bought by a Lisa Underwood. It’s registered under a company in Kralville.”

As she spoke, she handed Xavier a piece of paper.

Xavier took it and looked. It was a company he’d never heard of. “What is this company? What do they do?”

“It’s probably a shell company.”

Xavier asked. “So that villa has nothing to do with Josephine?”

“Nothing at all.”

A mocking smile touched Xavier’s lips. He guessed Josephine had gotten a purchase contract from who–knows–where and was playing this trick to fool Aveline, making her think he had bought her

a villa.

“Still,” he said, “do a thorough check on this company. There might be something fishy about it.”

“Yes, Mr. Beltran.”

Xavier walked in and saw that her maternal grandparents were already up and had come downstairs. He quickly went over to greet them.

Collin asked, “You went for a run too?”

“Yeah, I went running with Aveline. I ran into my grandfather on the way back and chatted with him for a bit.”

“I’m going to go up and take a shower first. We’ll head out for breakfast in a little while.”

After Xavier went upstairs, Paulina said to Collin, “Aveline went running with Xavier. Does that mean she’s not planning to divorce him anymore?”

Collin paused for a moment. “Aveline will make her own decisions, but I’m going to have a good talk with her. If Xavier is no good, we can’t be soft–hearted and let her go down the same path as
