Wake Up Leave The Liar novel Chapter 42

Chapter 19

Zark said nothing.

He didn’t want to comment on her. But her manner today was different-like she had dropped her past self, but not entirely.

Her gare was cold, sharp, and mocking.

Ashley ignored him and left.

Then, she took Jack back to the apartment Lily rented for him. It was 11 pm when she dropped him off. She was hungry.

“Ashley, let’s have late-night snacks!”

Ashley agreed. Her stomach rumbled. Jake heard that.”You didn’t have dinner?”

‘No.’

Jake felt bad.”I’m sorry…”

“It’s okay, I wasn’t hungry when I came to you.”

He felt sorry for her. He liked her so much, but his brother just didn’t see the good in her… She even gave up on their marriage.

Chase and the others returned home near 1 am. The butler asked with concern, “What took you so long, Mr. Sterling?”

Chase hummed in response. He took Sam to bed and entered his room. It was empty. He asked the butler, “She didn’t come home tonight?”

No, sir.’

Chase was surprised. Ashley hadn’t been home much lately. This was unusual. Did something happen at her family?

Sam woke up in a good mood. He really loved spending time with Tanya.

Thinking of Ashley, he ran to the master bedroom.

“Mommy! Mommy!”

The door was open, but she wasn’t there.

His face fell.

Chase emerged from the closet, dressed.

Dad, where’s Mom?”

Chase calmly tied his tie.”She’s not home.”

“Why?”

“Ask her yourself.”

Sam called Ashley.

She’d just finished jogging. Before she could speak, Sam said,”Mom! Where are you?”

Ashley asked, “What’s wrong, Sam? What happened?”

Only Cindy knew her current address.

She enjoyed her solitude and didn’t want to be disturbed.

Sam, on speakerphone, whined on Ashley and Chase’s bed.”I miss you, Mom! I want you to take me to school.”

I’m too far away. Maybe next time.”

“Okay, Sam was disappointed. “But you have to take me tomorrow!”

Ashley hesitated. She didn’t want to go back there.

Sam asked her again, “Mom?”

Chase overheard their conversation.

He was surprised.

In the past, Ashley would always prioritize Sam. He had thought she’d readily agree.

Ashley said, “Why don’t you ask Dad to take you to school?”

Sam missed Ashley, feeling wronged.

His eyes welled up.

“No, I want you. You haven’t taken me in ages!”

Since he insisted, Ashley gave in.”Okay, I’ll do it.” She agreed out of pity responsibility.

Sam smiled.

Chase put on his watch.

Seeing Sam still wanted to chat, he reminded, “You’ll be late for breakfast.”

Sam exclaimed, “Oh no! I haven’t brushed my teeth! Mom, bye!” He hung up hastily.

Ashley ate breakfast and went to Sterling Corp.

There was a meeting that morning; Chase would be there.

After ten minutes, Chase arrived. Sherry gasped, her eyes fixed on him.

She only looked away when the meeting started. She tugged Ashley’s sleeve, whispering, “Mr. Sterling is so handsome!”

Ashley, who didn’t even look at Chase, mumbled, “Yeah.”

Seeing Ashley’s indifference, Sherry was surprised. But then she thought it made sense.

After all, Ashley was married with a child. Sherry was captivated by Chase throughout the meeting and didn’t even listen. Ashley, on the other hand, focused on taking notes.

Chase left first. Sherry remained captivated until Alex arrived to collect Ashley’s notes. He said, “You did a good job.”

Sherry realized she’d missed everything and asked Ashley to share her the notes. When she saw it, she complained,”Ashley, you majored in

architecture?”

No.

“Why do you know so many industry terms…”

“I taught myself that after graduation. These are just the basics.” She’d spent years learning about various industries to do her job well.

You read medical books too?”

“Yes.’

Sherry was speechless.

After two days, Sherry realized Ashley deserved her position.”Send me your reading list! I’ll read them too,”

“Okay.”

At noon, Ashley sent Sherry a list of her books.

Sherry was stunned by the number.

There were over 40 books on the list.

At 3 pm, Chase had a visitor.

Alex asked Ashley to make coffee and said that he would deliver it.

Sherry found it strange. Was Alex stopping female employees from getting close to Chase? She asked, “Ashley, have you never delivered coffee to Mr.

Sterling yourself?”

“Sometimes, when Alex is busy, I do.”

Sherry liked coffee but didn’t want to learn how to make it. Her eyes lit up.”Ashley, can you teach me how to make coffee to Mr. Sterling’s liking?”

Ashley saw through her. “Sure.” She’d given up on Chase; what was the point of keeping this skill?

Alex saw this and was surprised. He and Justin had believed Ashley wouldn’t leave willingly. They expected her to make a move when Sherry came, since Sherry was beautiful. But Ashley had been friendly with Sherry and was now teaching her how to make coffee? What was going on?

Ashley finished her work, declined Sherry’s dinner invitation, and left to have dinner.

When she was on her way home, her phone rang. It was Sam.

“Mom, are you free?”

Ashley, in her car, asked, “What’s up?”

“I want crispy pork and radish soup. Can you make it for me?”

Mere

Ashley paused. They weren’t officially divorced, and Chase hadn’t asked her to move out. She believed he wouldn’t mind if she went home to cook. But she was tired and she had plans tonight. Sam was her responsibility, but she had a life too. She wouldn’t sacrifice her time unconditionally.

“I’m busy today. Maybe next time.”
