Chapter 408.

Chase’s gaze lingered on Ashley for a good two or three seconds before he finally looked away. So, while Chase looked like he was deep in conversation, Jeffery knew his eyes were really just glued to Ashley.
And when Ashley and Tim finished a conversation and moved on, Chase would still subtly search for her.
Meanwhile, Ashley was totally focused on hosting guests with Tim, completely oblivious to Chase’s intense gaze.
A wave of fury washed over Jeffery.
Chase’s gaze snapped back. He turned, their eyes locked, and Chase gave him a polite nod and a small smile.
Jeffery’s face clouded over. Others around him picked up on it.”Jeffery, what’s up?”
Jeffery managed to calm down, stuffing his fury back down.”Nothing,” he muttered.
He gave Chase a slight nod back.
He wanted to stick up for Tanya, but it wasn’t his place.
So, even though he felt awful for Tanya, he had to keep quiet, just like when he first noticed the vibe between Chase and Ashley.
But if Chase really crossed the line
Jeffery’s expression darkened. He glanced at Tanya.
Tanya was smiling, completely oblivious to Chase’s thoughts.
But
No way.
Tanya kept a much closer watch on Chase and Ashley’s every move than he did.
So, Chase’s attention on Ashley? She didn’t just notice it, she saw it way clearer than Jeffery.
Her grip tightened on her wine glass, her fake smile barely holding.
Just as she was trying to keep it together, her phone buzzed.
After the call, her expression shifted.”Okay, I get it. I’m on my way,” she said.
Her words snapped Chase out of it. He asked once she hung up, “What happened?”
“My grandma was hit by someone while walking in the neighborhood and fell,” she explained.”She’s on her way to the hospital now. I’m worried, so I want to go check on her.”
Chase said, I’ll go with you.”
Hearing Chase’s words, Tanya paused, a sudden sting in her nose.
She’d thought Chase wouldn’t want to leave the party, that he wouldn’t come to the hospital with her.
Then Chase added, “Let’s go say hi to Mr. Reed first.”
“…Okay, she managed.
When they got there, Ashley and Tim were already deep in conversation with Mr. Foster, David, and a whole crew of bigwigs.
Tanya was used to attending these kinds of galas with Chase. She’d stood next to plenty of high-rollers before.
But…
At these kinds of events, beyond the initial polite greetings, she was never really in their discussions. Forget about being the main topic or even a significant contributor.
But now, as Tanya followed Chase over, she saw Ashley chatting and laughing, totally comfortable, right there with Mr. Foster, David, and the rest. Mr. Foster and the other corporate bigwigs weren’t even trying to hide how impressed they were with Ashley. And David, the city’s Mayor, was practically
glowing, looking at her with an almost fatherly affection, like she was his golden prot g
Right then, Ashley wasn’t just standing with them. She was right there, on equal footing, with Mr. Foster, Mayor Adler, and all those other heavy-hitting political and business figures.
Not like Tanya, who usually just felt like a decorative accessory by Chase’s side.
Half of Eternal was Ashley’s, after all.
Ashley’s current net worth is huge. She might not be fully on par with big shots like Mr. Foster and David yet. But she totally has the clout now. Enough to sit at their table and talk serious business.
