Chapter 102
Madeleine turned back to look at Bradley, who was slumped in
the back seat.
“So… he has a crush on his stepsister.”
Roderick thought for a moment and shook his head.
“More like an obvious crush.”
Madeleine’s mouth fell open in surprise. “He confessed? That’s
brave.”
“That’s just Bradley’s personality. He looks like a slacker on the
surface, but he’s actually more persistent than anyone.”
As Roderick spoke, a hint of admiration appeared in his eyes,
followed by a bit of sadness for his friend.
Madeleine guessed the ending. “Charlotte rejected him?”
“Yeah, she said she’d always seen him as a little brother.”
That year, Bradley was twenty, and Charlotte was twenty–three.
Chapter 102
“Mr. Kline’s marriage to Charlotte’s mother didn’t last long. The
two families just went their separate ways. After Charlotte left,
she went abroad. Come to think of it, they probably haven’t
seen each other in a long time.”
“That’s so devoted. He hasn’t forgotten after all this time.”
Hearing this, Roderick felt a little sour.
Compared to Bradley, wasn’t he devoted too?
Bradley lived in a huge downtown apartment. At this location’s
price, he could never afford it on his real salary, not in a lifetime.
Sigh. Old man Kline might have been a womanizer, but he was
definitely willing to spend money on his son.
Madeleine didn’t go up with him, waiting in the car for a while.
She was playing a mindless little game on her phone when a
call came in from Rebecca.
Madeleine jumped when she saw it.
Honestly, she was still a little scared when she thought of
Rebecca’s sharp, serious face.
“Hey, Rebecca~”
Chapter 102
Madeleine was a sweet–talker with a sweet voice. After she
spoke, the other end of the line went silent for two full seconds,
as if adjusting their tone.
“I’ve got a lead on that thing you asked me to look into.”
Madeleine immediately sat up straight, her fingers
unconsciously twisting the hem of her clothes. “And?”
After another two–second pause, a business–like voice came
through.
“Money first.”
Rebecca made an outrageous demand, asking for a million.
That money was nothing to the newly rich Madeleine, of course,
but when she thought about it, that was a million dollars. She
could hire several private investigators with that.
Never mind the people around Edward, she could probably find
out what color underwear he was wearing today.
She sent the money over, feeling the sting, and only after
Rebecca confirmed it did she speak cheerfully:
“There’s no one around Edward with amnesia like you.”
Chapter 102
“Ah…”
Madeleine murmured, not knowing whether to be happy or
disappointed.
If there wasn’t, it meant her ‘awakening‘ was just an accident,
with no side effects.
Or maybe… there was no ‘awakening‘ at all.
“But, I did check out the people around him like you asked, and I
found one who’s pretty strange.”
Madeleine’s eyes lit up.
“Her name is Zoe Osborn. She joined Edward’s company three
years ago, biding her time, aiming to get revenge for her
parents.”
“Revenge?
What’s the story?”
“Her parents died in a construction collapse at a project run by
the Carroll Group. To keep it quiet, people from the group made
their deaths look like suicides…”
Madeleine felt a chill, not sure if the car’s AC was just on too

high.
She rubbed her arms, got out of the car, and leaned against the
door in the evening breeze, listening to Rebecca on the other
end.
Zoe had originally infiltrated the Carroll Group, filled with hatred.
She meticulously planned for three years, starting as a low–level
clerk and working her way up to the core departments, all so
she could one day personally bring Edward down and get
