Madeleine chuckled, telling Roderick everything she knew about
the “old fossil.”
After listening, Roderick pondered for a moment and asked
tentatively, “That old fossil, his last name is Shaw?”
“Hey, how did you know?
Rebecca let it slip today. She mentioned some Professor Shaw.
Although she didn’t say it outright, I guessed it was the old
fossil!”
Roderick’s mouth twitched twice, and he leaned back in his
chair.
“Don’t get too excited. Rebecca doesn’t like him. She’s just…
willing to do whatever it takes to get what she wants.”
The Rebecca that Roderick described as ruthless and willing to
do anything to get her way was currently trying every trick in the
book to unlock a shared bike.
“What is this thing!”
Chapter 116
She grumbled, phone in hand, wishing she could just kick the
lock open.
If it weren’t for building up her poor damsel in distress image,
would she have parked her multi–million dollar G–Wagon in the
lot across the street?
After trying for what felt like forever, she finally unlocked it.
Rebecca let out a long sigh and rode the bike to a restaurant a
few hundred meters away.
Seeing the elegant figure at the restaurant entrance from a
distance, Rebecca’s heart leaped with joy, and she quickly
straightened her back as she rode over.
The man stood under a streetlight by the restaurant entrance,
the warm yellow light casting a soft glow around him.
He was wearing a simple blue and white plaid shirt, exuding a
cool, scholarly air.
Gold–rimmed glasses rested on his high–bridged nose. The eyes
behind the lenses were as calm as still water. He was looking
down at his watch, and when he looked up, his gaze met
Rebecca’s perfectly.
“Professor Shaw!”
Chapter 116
Rebecca called out from a distance. She got off the bike when she was closer and then parked the shared bike on the side of
the road.
“You rode a bike here?”
“Yeah, just like you, Professor Shaw, I’m all for low–carbon
travel.”
Adrian Shaw had a gentle expression. He glanced at Rebecca,
then at the shared bike.
“You didn’t lock the bike.”
Rebecca’s expression froze.
Oh no, oh no. I was so focused on how to unlock it, I have no
idea how to lock it!
If I say I don’t know, won’t that expose that I’m lying to him?
The last time they met, she had mentioned that she either took
the subway or biked everywhere.
“Um, haha, I’ll just leave it unlocked. I’ll ride it back after dinner.”
“You should probably lock it. It’ll be a while before we eat, and
we can go for a walk afterward.”
Chapter 116
Rebecca thought that made sense and scanned the bike a
couple of times.
Wait, I don’t see a lock anywhere…
Just as she was starting to panic, Adrian’s gentle voice spoke
again.
“The shared bikes have all been upgraded now. You just have to
lock it on your phone.”
“Oh!
Right, right, I totally forgot. I only remember what they were like
before the upgrade.”
Rebecca smiled faintly, opened her phone, and sure enough,
she saw the “lock” option on the screen.
Phew, that was a close call.
Adrian picked the restaurant for dinner. It was an ordinary
private home–style restaurant, with a pretty average location
and decor.
But the place was packed. If Adrian hadn’t made a reservation
in advance, they wouldn’t have gotten a table.
Chapter 116
Rebecca picked up the menu, her fingertips gently brushing
against the paper.
“Professor Shaw, have you eaten here before? What dishes do
you recommend?”
Her voice was gentle, making her seem like a completely
different person from her usual self.
As she spoke, she snuck a glance at Professor Shaw’s
