Chapter 138
Chapter 138
Thinking about what had soured their relationship last time, she
couldn’t help but ask, “By the way, how is Mrs. Miller’s health?”
“Mm, she’s fine.”
He looked up at Madeleine only after he finished speaking. “Oh,
and Rebecca is already here. She’s in the room with Mrs. Miller
right now. You should go join them.”
Madeleine was a little surprised. Seeing Roderick nod as well,
she went inside.
The nervousness she’d been holding onto since she arrived
eased a little.
Why did it feel like… Owen’s attitude toward her had changed so
much?
Madeleine went in and asked the housekeeper where Mrs. Miller and Rebecca were. The housekeeper led her to an inner room, saying the two of them were trying on clothes in the walk-
in closet.
Before she even got close, she heard Rebecca’s voice from

inside.
“No, no, Mrs. Miller, this looks too weird on me. Maybe we
should just forget it.”
“It’s not weird, Rebecca, you look beautiful in this. Quick, give
me a twirl.”
Madeleine was very curious. She knocked, but didn’t wait for an
answer before opening the door and poking her head in.
“What’s this about a dress!”
When she saw Rebecca turn around, Madeleine’s eyes went
wide.
Rebecca stood gracefully in front of the full–length mirror,
wearing a little black dress.
The little black dress was embroidered with exquisite, subtle
patterns, making her skin look as white as snow. Her hair,
usually worn down or in a high ponytail, was now held up by a wooden hairpin, revealing her long, slender neck. She looked
like a classic beauty who had stepped right out of a
monochrome watercolor painting.
Madeleine stared, a little stunned. This was a completely

different person from the cool and edgy Rebecca who was
always in a motorcycle jacket and jeans.
“Oh my god, what a transformation!”
Madeleine couldn’t help but exclaim, “Are you planning on
changing your style?”
Hearing this, a rare blush appeared on Rebecca’s face.
She uncomfortably tugged at the collar of the little black dress.
“You think it doesn’t suit me either, right?
This is even more ridiculous than that white dress last time. I
should just change back.”
“Don’t!”
Mrs. Miller quickly stopped her. “It’s beautiful! I had this little
black dress custom–made when I was young and never had a
chance to wear it. I never thought it would suit you so
perfectly.”
True, the little black dress perfectly showed off Rebecca’s slim waist and long legs. The frog fasteners, buttoned all the way to
her neck, gave her a kind of untouchable beauty.
Chapter 138
Mrs. Miller waved Madeleine inside and opened another
rosewood and sandalwood chest.
“Maddie, come try these on and see if you like any of them.”
“For me, too?”
“Of course.”
Mrs. Miller smiled. She had a naturally gentle face, and her
smile was incredibly warm.
She picked out a few and held them up. “You have fair skin, so
light colors will look good on you. Here, why don’t you try this
one?”
“Okay!”
Madeleine couldn’t hide her girlish excitement. She happily took
the beautiful dress and went inside to change.
Rebecca looked in the mirror again, then took out her phone
and snapped a picture of her reflection.
After hesitating for a moment, she posted it to her moments, making it visible to only one person.

Chapter 138
Madeleine was wearing a lotus–pink dress with magnolia
embroidery, which made her skin glow and look utterly
charming.
She spun around confidently. “So? Do I look good?”
Mrs. Miller nodded, her eyes crinkling with a smile, while
Rebecca pouted.
“Why are you asking us? Go ask Roderick.”
