“You’ve all been working so hard lately. How about we all get
together for dinner tonight?
My treat!”
The four secretaries looked at each other.
Get together?
It’s over. This can’t be a farewell dinner, can it?
“Since you’re not saying no, I’ll take that as a yes. I’ll go look for
a place. Hey, if you have any restaurants you want to try, you
can send them to me.”
Madeleine gave a little chuckle, went back to her desk, and
started looking up restaurants, not forgetting to tell Roderick
about it.
Of course, her offer to treat the secretaries to dinner tonight
wasn’t a spur–of–the–moment decision, but a part of the plan
she had already discussed with Roderick.
As Roderick’s trusted aides, they were the ones the mole was

watching most closely.
Only by letting Edward’s side know that what Roderick put out
was a smokescreen, making him think he had seen through
Roderick’s plan, would he raise his stakes in the bid.
Her slender fingers swiped quickly across her phone, finally
stopping on an expensive French restaurant near the company.
At a critical moment when the Livingston Group was
supposedly “in crisis,” Daquan could still casually take a few of
her key secretaries out for dinner.
A move like that was enough to make certain people suspect
that the Livingston Group’s financial situation wasn’t nearly as
bad as the rumors claimed.
Madeleine sighed and leaned back in her chair.
Oh, Edward, Edward, don’t let my plan fail. You just have to be
the smart one, don’t you.
Madeleine chose a high–end French restaurant. After the four
secretaries found out, they couldn’t focus on their work for the
last few hours of the day.
They looked like they were working hard, but they were actually

typing furiously in their group chat.
Teresa: Alright, ladies, first time having such a fancy farewell
dinner. How’s everyone feeling?
Yvonne Osborn: I’m so touched… The company is about to go
under, and Chase is still treating us to such an expensive
restaurant.
Sophia: I apologize to Chase. I used to ship Ms. Whitman and
the president, but Chase is the best, boo hoo hoo.
Olivia Kinney: Are we going to be the first ones to get laid off…?
Teresa: Even if I am, I’ve accepted it. I’ll fight with the company
until the very last second.
Madeleine didn’t know what they were thinking, so after work,
she went to Roderick’s office to change into a pretty dress.
When she came out and saw the four secretaries still in their
casual clothes with solemn expressions, she couldn’t help but
frown.
“I’m taking you to a restaurant that costs five figures a person,
and you’re wearing… this?”
Madeleine said with a serious expression.

“If you take a group photo with me like this and post it on
moments, I’ll get flamed.”
The four of them looked at each other.
“Flamed for what?”
“For being a fake bitch!”
She glanced at the time. “Don’t you guys have spare clothes in
the office? Quick, I’ll give you ten minutes to change and touch
up your makeup or whatever.”
The four of them took her words as a military order, running
back and starting the clock as they got ready.
Ten minutes later, the five of them, a stunning sight, headed
out together.
As dusk settled, the evening breeze carried a faint scent of
flowers.
The car drove past the bustling commercial district and turned
onto a quiet, plane tree–lined lane. At the end of the road stood
a classic French building.

Warm yellow light shone through the ornate wrought–iron
window grilles, outlining an elegant silhouette on the wooden
shutters.
Above the main entrance, a sign with French lettering was
