Rebecca took two sharp breaths, tilted her head up, and bit at
his lips, full of resentment and a sense of abandon.
Adrian’s eyes darkened, his jaw tight, not letting Rebecca have
her way.
Confused, she pulled away from his lips, her eyes questioning
what he meant.
Adrian narrowed his eyes and scoffed.
“I’m not interested in sleeping with a patient.”
He paused for a moment after speaking.
“It affects the experience.”
In an instant, Rebecca felt like something had exploded in her
mind.
She was immediately filled with shame and anger.
Adrian!
Chapter 230
How could he be so cruel!
“Then why did you come up with me?”
Rebecca immediately let go and took a step back, her voice
turning several degrees colder.
Adrian didn’t say a word. He bent down and opened the shoe
cabinet. Seeing no well–worn men’s slippers inside, he was
satisfied.
He took out a brand new pair from the bottom, put them on,
completely ignoring Rebecca’s fury.
“Go sit on the couch.”
After saying that, he rolled up his sleeves and went into the
kitchen.
Rebecca felt a sense of powerlessness, like punching cotton,
leaving her feeling completely drained.
Ten minutes later, a fragrant aroma drifted from the kitchen, and a moment after, Adrian emerged with a bowl of noodles.
“How come there’s nothing in the fridge?”
“I don’t like to cook.”
Chapter 230
It wasn’t that she couldn’t, she just didn’t like to.
After her family went bankrupt, Rebecca had it harder than
most people; of course she knew how to cook.
Back then, she had to scrimp and save to make even a few
wilted vegetable leaves last for two meals.
It was just that cooking held too many bad memories for her. It
had become a sore spot, so she was unwilling to do it.
Adrian said nothing, silently watching her finish the meal.
The night was silent. Outside the window, it looked like two
shooting stars streaked by.
One after the other, chasing each other, as if they were about to
touch…
The next morning, Madeleine’s period arrived right on schedule.
The first day was usually the most painful for her, and she could
only get through it with painkillers.
Bored while curled up in bed, she picked up her phone to check. the messages she’d sent to Rebecca.
“What’s going on? I’ve sent so many messages all morning and
Chapter 230
she hasn’t replied.”
Madeleine decided to just video call her.
After a while, Rebecca finally answered. It turned out she was
still in bed.
“Rebecca, why aren’t you awake yet?”
Madeleine was very surprised. It was already ten o’clock, and
being in bed at ten was almost impossible for Rebecca.
She had heard Roderick mention that Rebecca was a typical
workaholic who worked herself to death. The two of them had
gone on a business trip abroad before, and because of the time
difference, they had pulled an all–nighter in the country.
On the plane, Roderick at least got some sleep, but Rebecca
was working on documents the entire time.
As soon as they landed, she went straight into work mode, not
sleeping for a full forty hours, all to secure a project crucial to
the group’s future.
Roderick said frankly that sometimes even he was intimidated
by Rebecca’s drive.
Chapter 230
“Are you not feeling well?”
Madeleine looked at Rebecca’s just–woken–up face and could
easily see that she was pale.
She answered in a hoarse voice, “I ate something bad last night.
Gastroenteritis.”
“Ah!
Why didn’t you tell me? Did you go to the hospital?
Are you still feeling unwell now?”
“I’ve been, got a shot and took some medicine. It’s nothing
serious.”
Rebecca got out of bed with her phone, and when she opened
her bedroom door, she froze.
Adrian was just coming out of the kitchen with a small dish,
placing it on the table. He looked up at her and said naturally:
