Chapter 239
“Okay, please let me know when you find the number.”
After hanging up, Leona took another deep look at Madeleine
on the screen.
She slammed the laptop shut.
After the arts festival, Kevin had a few days off, and Madeleine
planned to use this time to ask Rebecca and the others out for
a meal.
And to get some gossip, of course.
Ever since she found out Adrian had gone to Rebecca’s house
last time, Madeleine had been pestering Rebecca about it.
She would always stammer and wouldn’t give a clear answer.
When Madeleine wanted to pin her down for a proper
explanation, she just went on a business trip out of town and
only got back yesterday.
Chapter 239
That’s not acceptable!
As Rebecca’s dear bestie, Madeleine had to protect her love
life.
After texting Rebecca, Madeleine was a little worried.
“Ricki, we have to figure out a way to get Professor Shaw to
come too. Do you have any good ideas?”
“No.”
Roderick said bluntly, “I don’t know him well.”
Madeleine sighed in disappointment.
“But.”
Roderick spoke up again, and Madeleine quickly turned her
head excitedly to look at him.
“Why do we need to know him that well?”
He took out his phone, found Adrian’s number, and called it
without hesitation.
Madeleine rushed over to listen, and Roderick pulled her onto
his lap.
Chapter 239
The call connected quickly, and Adrian’s calm voice came
through the speakerphone.
“Mr. Livingston?”
“Professor Shaw, hope you’ve been well.”
“You’re too kind, Mr. Livingston. Is there something I can help
you with?”
Roderick glanced at Madeleine’s expectant little look, raised an
eyebrow, and said, “Here’s the thing, my wife mentioned she’s
planning to invite a few friends to relax tomorrow. I heard your
family has a private mountain lodge in The Alps with a nice
view?
I was wondering if we could borrow it for a couple of days.”
There was a brief silence on the other end of the line.
Adrian probably didn’t expect Roderick to know so much about
his family background.
And he certainly didn’t expect him to ask to borrow it so directly.
A moment later, Adrian’s voice came through again, with a
barely perceptible hint of resignation and amusement:
Chapter 239
“Mr. Livingston, you’re certainly well–informed. My mother does.
have a small house in The Alps. It’s usually empty. Since Mrs.
Livingston wants to have a get–together with friends, I’ll contact
the housekeeper to arrange it.”
“No need to trouble Professor Shaw to arrange it personally.”
Roderick said in a steady tone, “Then thank you, Mr. Shaw.”
“You’re welcome.”
The call ended. Madeleine blinked a couple of times, looking at
her phone, then at Roderick’s.
“That’s it?”
Roderick nodded.
Madeleine’s eyes widened. “No… what’s the point of this? My
goal wasn’t to borrow the estate, it was to trick Professor Shaw
into coming over.”
“Silly girl.”
Roderick flicked Madeleine’s forehead with two fingers.
“The smell of fish is in the air. Are you worried the greedy cat won’t show up?”
Chapter 239
Madeleine froze for a second, then slapped her thigh.
“Right! Ricki, you’re really something else!”
Roderick raised an eyebrow but just smiled without saying a
word.
Sigh, they were both men. How could he not understand
another man?
“Let’s invite a few more people. What about Bradley? What’s he
been up to lately?”
Madeleine snatched the phone from Roderick’s hand and
started scrolling through Bradley’s moments.
After she was done, her jaw almost hit the floor.
“Isn’t this the blind date my mom set him up with!
Are they really together?”
For the past few days, Bradley’s moments were all about his
blind date, Isabella.
The two of them were eating together, taking pictures, and
checking in at various spots.
