Chapter 248
When her son saw the therapist, Mr. Eleanor had said something similar.
The little guy has a very low sense of self–worth because he’s
so sensitive.
Is Rebecca like that too?
But I never noticed.
“She hides it very well.”
Roderick saw what Madeleine was thinking and said in a low voice, “Maybe it’s the grim experience of her family going bankrupt, or the death of Leo who pulled her from the darkness
-those things hit her too hard.”
Even as he said it, Roderick couldn’t help but sigh.
“Maybe those are the things that make her subconsciously feel that good things aren’t meant for her, that she belongs in a
darker place.”
Madeleine’s mouth fell open slightly as she understood, picking

up where Roderick left off:
“So, the maturity, stability, and tolerance Adrian shows are, in
her eyes, another form of perfection and light. The two are
opposites, and she can’t feel at ease standing beside him.”
Roderick nodded in approval.
His Madeleine really was clever.
“So, if I were Adrian, the first thing I’d do is sink with her.”
Madeleine took a deep breath.
It was a long moment before she spoke.
“Ricki, if you’d used that brain of yours to go after me back then,
would we really have spent all those years as sworn enemies?!”
The yard was filled with laughter when footsteps were heard
outside, followed by the doorbell ringing.
Bradley was busy with the BBQ skewers. Just because Kevin had praised his grilling as the best, he’d been standing in front
of the grill for an hour.
“Who is it? Rebecca and him?”
Chapter 248
Bradley wiped his hands and went to open the door.
“Unbelievable. After those two are done fooling around, I still
have to open the door for them.”
Grumbling irritably, Bradley went and pressed the switch for the
yard gate.
The moment the gate opened, a gust of fresh air rushed in from
outside.
Mixed with a familiar, intoxicating scent of wood and flowers.
Bradley was so struck by the familiar scent that he almost lost
his balance.
Charlotte just appeared before him like that.
She was wearing a long white floral dress, paired with a long,
dark brown coat, and a matching white floral scarf wrapped
around her neck, looking elegant and classy.
Time seemed to freeze in that moment.
Bradley swallowed all his earlier complaints and grumbling, his
mind going blank.
Because besides Charlotte.
Chapter 248
He also saw a familiar figure.
The man Charlotte had once posted on her moments.
“Long time no see, Bradley.”
The surprise in Charlotte’s eyes vanished in a flash, a smile
gracing the corners of her eyes as she greeted Bradley gently.
Bradley wanted to speak, but his throat was tight, and he
subconsciously focused all his attention on the man beside
Charlotte.
The man was tall, wore black–rimmed glasses, and looked very
refined.
Charlotte turned her head, “Simon Adler, this is the one I told
you about, my younger brother, Bradley.”
The man smiled and extended his hand to Bradley.
“So you’re Bradley. I’ve often heard your sister mention you. My
name is Simon, and I’m your sister’s…”
“Boyfriend.”
Charlotte finished, smiling slightly.
Chapter 248
Those words were the last straw for Bradley; his pupils
trembled violently.
“Hello.”
He nodded, not extending his hand, just responding
mechanically.
His brain was still processing the information: “Charlotte really
has a boyfriend,” “Charlotte doesn’t want him anymore.”
He stiffly turned to the side, letting the two of them in.
Charlotte and Simon were both carrying things and greeted
everyone as they came in.
Charlotte walked up to Madeleine.
“Long time no see, Madeleine. The last time I saw you was at
your and Roderick’s wedding. You haven’t changed a bit.”
