Chapter 259
Chapter 259
Charlotte was turned slightly to the side, holding a small
medicine box. She tipped out two white pills and handed them
to Simon.
Her brow was slightly furrowed, and her tone was the gentle,
concerned one that Bradley knew so well:
“Take this, you’ll feel better.
Don’t drink so much next time, it’s bad for you.”
Simon took the pills, washing them down with the warm water
Charlotte handed him, and then gave her a gentle, slightly
apologetic smile.
“Sorry, I wasn’t myself last night. I caused you trouble.”
“It’s fine.”
Charlotte shook her head, a hint of hard–to–read complexity in
her eyes, but mostly just natural concern.
This scene, to Bradley, who had just gone through an emotional upheaval and whose memory was still in pieces, was incredibly

jarring.
Their interaction was so natural, so in sync!
Charlotte’s worried and concerned gaze overlapped and then
separated from the one in his blurry memory that had shown
him heartache and hesitation, making his heart feel like it had
been soaked in vinegar and then tossed into a deep fryer!
Did she take care of him like that last night?
Did she hand him water and medicine with that same
gentleness?
Or… was she only like this with Simon?
That nameless rage Simon had just ignited with a few words
roared back to life, burning away all his reason.
He strode over, his face so grim it could drip water, his gaze
locked on Charlotte, his voice hoarse and sharp:
“Well, look at that. Mr. Adler can’t hold his liquor either, huh? Still
needs someone to look after him and give him medicine?”
These sudden, hostile words made the two on the sofa freeze,
both turning their heads to look at him.

When Charlotte saw it was him, her eyes flickered instinctively,
as if she wanted to avoid his gaze.
But she eventually looked at him, her brow furrowing even
tighter.
“Bradley, you’re awake?
Does your head still hurt?”
Her tone sounded normal enough, but if you listened closely, it
seemed to have a subtle tightness that wasn’t there when she
was talking to Simon.
“It doesn’t hurt. I’m perfectly fine.”
He said that, but his awful expression told a different story.
Charlotte didn’t say anything, just tipped out two more pills.
“Here, take this. You’ll feel better.”
Bradley didn’t speak.
Dr. Kline, who had just been mocking Simon for needing
someone to give him medicine, now spoke in a muffled voice
that seemed to hold a hint of a sulk:

“I don’t have any water.”
“I’ll go get you some. Just hold on to these.”
Charlotte was about to go to the kitchen to get Bradley some water. As she reached the spot where the living room met the
hallway, she saw Madeleine sneakily pressing her ear against
Adrian’s door.
Her ear was practically glued to the door, her face a mixture of
intense focus, nervousness, and excitement.
Charlotte froze for a second, then found it a little funny.
Her own annoyance and tension eased a bit at the sight of Madeleine’s adorable expression.
She tiptoed over and gently tapped Madeleine’s shoulder.
“Ah!”
Madeleine was so startled she nearly jumped, whipping her
head around.
Seeing it was Charlotte, she quickly clutched her chest and whispered guiltily, “Charlotte, you scared me to death.”
Charlotte held back a laugh and whispered, “What are you doing

here?
What are you eavesdropping on so intently?”
Madeleine’s face instantly turned red. She gave a dry laugh and
said it was nothing, she was just checking to see if everyone
was up.
Charlotte smiled, knowing Madeleine wasn’t telling the truth,
but didn’t press the issue and turned to get some water.
Madeleine excitedly rubbed her hands together.
Of course, she couldn’t tell her that she had just discovered her
good friend Rebecca had spent the night in Professor Shaw’s
room
