Chapter 273
During a pause when Meredith was catching his breath, he said
flatly, “If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up.“.
“You dare!
Get your ass back here and get married.”
“Fine. If you’re not afraid of the whole family dying from poison
and making the news after we’re married, I’ll come back
anytime.”
He let out a cold laugh. “I’m an expert at making poison.”
With that, Adrian hung up.
He said those last two sentences with his back to Rebecca, his
face dark and menacing.
It was as if he didn’t want Rebecca to discover his dark side.
He was afraid she would run away if she saw him like this.
Taking a deep breath, Adrian tried to calm himself. When he turned and got back in the car, he was already wearing the

familiar smile of Professor Shaw, the one his students always
saw.
“Tired of waiting?”
“Not at all.”
Rebecca shook her head, but she could still sense Adrian’s
facade.
“What’s wrong? Did something happen? Is the lab rushing you?”
Adrian started the car, his eyes on the road. “No, that was
family.”
“Family, huh.”
Rebecca grew curious and turned to look at him. “I don’t think
you’ve ever mentioned them. Who’s in your family? Are you
close?”
Adrian didn’t answer immediately, as if he were subconsciously
weighing his words.
But those two seconds of hesitation were enough for Rebecca
to realize.
Wait.
Chapter 273
Had she been a little too forward with her question?
There was still a month left in their trial period. Asking this kind
of question now, wouldn’t it be awkward if he didn’t want to
answer?
Before Adrian could speak, Rebecca quickly forced a grin.
“I was just asking. I’m not actually that curious.”
Adrian turned to glance at her, swallowing the words he was
about to say.
Really? So her curiosity about me was that low.
Their relationship wasn’t at that stage yet; some topics were
indeed off–limits.
With that thought, Adrian managed a strained smile.
“Shall we get going then?”
“Yeah, let’s go.”
The car pulled out onto the road. By unspoken agreement, neither of them mentioned what had just happened.
A not–so–perfect date.
Chapter 273
While watching the movie, both Rebecca and Adrian seemed
preoccupied.
The mystery movie had a fast pace, and you’d miss important
clues if you zoned out for even a moment.
So after it was over, they both tacitly agreed not to discuss the
narrative control.
“Are you heading to the lab in a bit?”
“Yeah.”
Adrian glanced at the time. “We still have a little time. Want to
do something else?”
“What… are you thinking?”
Rebecca’s mind went to the gutter, and her face flushed with
embarrassment.
Adrian couldn’t help but laugh.
“Even if you wanted to, there isn’t enough time. We have less
than forty minutes left.”
Rebecca breathed a sigh of relief, her mouth moving faster than her brain. “I get it, I get it. Men, you all say you can last a long

time.”
Adrian stopped in his tracks.
He turned his head, his hand holding Rebecca’s tightening
slightly.
“Who else has said that to you?”
“No one, no one.”
Rebecca finally realized what she’d said, looking embarrassed. “That’s just what they say in TV shows and novels. I was just
talking.”
Adrian narrowed his eyes, but seeing that Rebecca didn’t seem to be lying, his jealousy slowly faded.
He slowly moved closer, lowering his head to whisper in
Rebecca’s ear:
“The proof is in the pudding, Rebecca, understand?”
“Understand what?”
Rebecca hadn’t been desensitized yet; she inevitably grew
nervous whenever Adrian got close.
Chapter 273
“Heh…” Adrian let out a low, husky laugh, and Rebecca felt the
tips of her ears burning.
He took the opportunity to wrap his arm around Rebecca and
