Chapter 283
Beads of sweat dripped from his forehead, but he didn’t bother
to wipe them away.
The exhaustion from being up all night and the extreme
emotional turmoil from moments ago were now frozen behind
a wall of professionalism.
Right now, he was just a doctor, a doctor racing against death
to save a life.
Not far away, a door opened.
Charlotte, hearing the commotion, opened her door and peeked
her head out, only to see this scene.
Bradley?
Is that him?
Charlotte froze, wondering if she was seeing things.
She moved closer. Bradley was already performing CPR, talking to the paramedics on the phone as he worked, describing the
patient’s condition in the most concise terms.

“Breathing and heartbeat are back, but they’re very weak. Get
the epinephrine ready.”
After saying that, Bradley looked up at the guard. “The
elevator…”
In that instant he looked up, Bradley noticed Charlotte walking
over.
After a half–second lapse, he looked away and continued
asking, “Is the elevator ready?”
“Yes, yes, we’ve cleared an elevator specifically for the
paramedics to come straight up.”
“Good.”
Bradley nodded, his hands never stopping their work.
The exhaustion from a sleepless night and the recent emotional
rollercoaster now weighed heavily on his body.
His breathing grew heavy, and a distinct ache started in his
arms.
“Dr. Kline!”
The intern who followed him saw he was struggling and rushed

forward. “Let me take over for a bit!”
Bradley didn’t push it. His professional training reminded him
how important continuous, high–quality CPR was
He stepped aside, panting heavily to catch his breath, his eyes
fixed on the intern’s actions and the old man’s response.
Two minutes later, the elevator dinged open, and paramedics
rushed in with a stretcher and medical gear.
“What’s the situation?”
The doctor rushed over and quickly took over.
Bradley stopped and gave his report, his words coming out
incredibly fast but perfectly clear:
“Elderly male, sudden loss of consciousness, suspected
sudden cardiac death.
Found with no spontaneous breathing and no carotid pulse. We
performed CPR for about 5 minutes. He briefly regained a
spontaneous heart rhythm and weak breathing, but his
condition is still unstable. Past medical history is unknown. A witness said he suddenly collapsed.”

“Are you a doctor?”
“Yeah.”
Bradley watched the doctor hook the patient up to the
equipment. He finally let out a breath and looked back to where
he’d been looking before.
Good. Charlotte was still there.
“Which hospital are you with? Why don’t you come with us? We
can give you a ride to the hospital.”
Bradley shook his head. “I just got off the night shift.”
The paramedic glanced at his pale face and let out a sound of
understanding.
The paramedics pushed the gurney quickly toward the service
elevator. The crowd of onlookers in the hallway whispered as
they slowly dispersed, leaving only the building’s security guard
and a few residents.
Bradley watched the elevator doors close and the indicator light
show it was going down. He finally looked away and let out a
long sigh.
Chapter 283
He turned and looked at Charlotte, who was standing nearby in
her pajamas, watching him with a complicated look on her face.
The intern was sharp. Even though he was dying of curiosity
about the woman’s relationship with Dr. Kline, he immediately
stepped forward and said in a low voice:
“Dr. Kline, should I head back to the hospital now?
Your car keys…”
He handed the keys over.
Bradley took the keys and patted the intern’s shoulder, his voice
unusually hoarse from exhaustion and his earlier shouting:
