He didn’t expect Rebecca to come out with Mr. Whitman.
The three of them ran into each other just like that. Rebecca
was a bit awkward and had no choice but to admit in front of
her father that she had a boyfriend now.
Although Adrian was a little nervous about suddenly meeting
her father, he was inwardly thrilled by Rebecca’s straightforward
introduction.
He maintained a calm expression and greeted Mr. Whitman
politely and thoughtfully.
After all, it was his first time meeting his future father–in–law, so
making a good impression was very important.
Mr. Whitman didn’t say much at the time, just told them to hurry
up
and go to dinner, and to bring Rebecca back early after they
finished.
But the next day, Mr. Whitman invited Adrian for tea.
This time Rebecca wasn’t there, and Adrian was much more
nervous.
Chapter 308
He had thought Mr. Whitman would interrogate him about
everything, like his family background and financial situation.
He had even mentally prepared himself to be told to back off,
and was hesitating whether to reveal his true identity.
Unexpectedly, Mr. Whitman just chatted with him about his
current work and the latest in academia, asked about his
research field, and occasionally offered his views on current
events.
It wasn’t until they had more to talk about and the conversation
warmed up that Mr. Whitman asked about their relationship.
Adrian didn’t mention that Rebecca had pretended to be
Eleanor to get close to him, as he wasn’t sure if Mr. Whitman
knew and was afraid he would blame her.
So, their story became that they met at work, he fell in love at
first sight, and he pursued Rebecca relentlessly.
Eventually, Rebecca let her guard down, and they got together.
Mr. Whitman was silent for a long time after listening. He knew
his daughter; she hadn’t dated in years and would never fall for
someone so quickly.
But he could tell this young man was dependable.
Chapter 308
He was especially impressed with Adrian’s knowledge and the
way he spoke.
As he was leaving, Mr. Whitman patted Adrian’s shoulder.
“Rebecca looks tough, but she’s more sentimental than anyone. Once she’s made up her mind, no one can change it. Since she
chose you, treat her well. Material things aren’t important, a true
heart is what matters most.”
Adrian immediately nodded seriously. “Don’t worry, Mr.
Whitman.”
Now, seeing Mr. Whitman again, Adrian was no longer as reserved as he had been during their first two meetings.
The elders around him, though… their eyes seemed to be
constantly sizing him up.
“Rebecca, aren’t you going to introduce us?”
Mr. Cooper was smiling, his gaze finally shifting from Adrian to
Rebecca.
Rebecca walked to Adrian’s side and introduced him gracefully, “Uncles, this is my boyfriend, Adrian. He currently works at Harvard University.”
Chapter 308
“A university professor?”
Adrian nodded. “Sort of. I don’t teach much right now, I’m
mainly doing research.”
Mr. Whitman quickly added, “Adrian is a leading talent in the
field of biopharmaceuticals. He has a very bright future.”
Mr. Cooper’s smile widened when he heard that, but Rebecca,
perhaps being sensitive, felt there was a hidden meaning
behind it.
“So that means he’s a professor?
Professor Shaw is so handsome and accomplished, teaching at
a prestigious university at such a young age.”
He said it as if joking with the people around him, “I think that’s
a great job. It’s relaxed, stable, with winter and summer breaks.
He’ll be able to take care of the home more in the future.”
The person next to him immediately agreed, “That’s right.
Rebecca is always busy like a spinning top. It’s perfect for her
to have a partner who can take care of the home.”
“So, when you two get married, will you be living with the
Whitman family?
