“Adrian, I know you have a girlfriend, but there’s something I
want to say again. Our two families know each other inside and
out, and our union would be the best choice for both our
families. I don’t care who’s in your heart right now; feelings can
be cultivated over time. I can even accept… you staying in
touch with her after we’re married. As long as it doesn’t go too
far, I won’t interfere.”
She finished, feigning generosity, paused for a moment, and
then continued, “The resources and prospects that the Vance family and the Shaw family could gain by joining forces are far beyond what personal feelings can compare to. Are you sure
you won’t reconsider?
This is the most rational choice, the one that best serves your
interests.”
She had lowered herself completely, even making an almost
humiliating concession.
She laid the practicality of the strategic marriage on the table,
trying to persuade him with pure rationality.
Chapter 315
Adrian listened quietly, his face expressionless, only the gaze behind his glasses growing colder.
After Rosalind finished, he was silent for a few seconds before
he slowly began to speak, his voice clear and cold, every word carrying undeniable weight.
“Rosalind, first of all, there is no such thing as ‘staying in touch‘
between my girlfriend and me. She is the woman I love, the only
person I want to spend my life with. There is no option for you
to ‘accept‘ or ‘interfere‘ with.”
“Second.”
He paused, a hint of mockery in his voice.
“What you call ‘rational‘ is a calculation based on maximizing
benefits, not my kind of rational. My rationality tells me that a
marriage without an emotional foundation, filled with
calculations and compromises, is the most irrational and
immoral thing of all.”
“And finally.”
His voice suddenly became extremely serious. “Please, respect
me and respect yourself. Don’t make this kind of proposal that
insults both you and me again. My girlfriend and I have a

wonderful relationship, and I am not, nor will I ever, consider
any other possibility. I don’t want to hear words like this again.”
The other end of the line fell into a long silence, with only the
sound of slightly ragged breathing.
After a long while, Rosalind’s voice came again, carrying a
barely perceptible tremor and… resentment.
“Adrian, you’ll regret this. Feelings are the most unreliable thing.
The only thing that’s real are the interests you can hold in your
hands.”
“Those are your values, not mine.”
Adrian said coldly, “If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up.”
Without waiting for a response, he hung up the phone.
Standing in place, Adrian took a deep breath, suppressing the
irritation that the phone call had stirred up in him.
He composed himself, making sure his usual gentle and calm
expression was back, before turning to walk back to Kevin.
The little guy was still sitting there, quietly watching the deer in
the distance, seemingly undisturbed by his phone call.
Chapter 315
Adrian walked over and sat down beside him again, as if that
unpleasant phone call had never happened.
“Mr. Shaw,” Kevin turned his head and asked in a low voice, “are
you in some kind of trouble?”
Adrian was a little surprised; he hadn’t expected the boy to be
so perceptive.
He smiled and gently shook his head.
“No trouble.
Just an… unimportant person, saying some unimportant
things.”
Is that so?
Kevin tilted his head.
Hmm, so adults lie too.
The investigation on Gerry’s end wasn’t going smoothly. There were just too many people going in and out of the mall, and
investigating each person’s connections was a massive
undertaking.
Chapter 315
Hours passed, but there was still no good news.
As for Mrs. Miller, no news was the best news.
“Sir, Chase.”
