Chapter 339
Roderick listened quietly, his deep eyes swirling with thoughts.
Madeleine’s guess was bold, but it wasn’t entirely without
reason.
He remembered the look in Edward’s eyes in the bathroom-
shocked, panicked, even a little scared. It wasn’t just anger that
his plan was ruined; it was more like the daze of someone
whose foundation had been shaken.
If Edward also realized his fate was being arranged for him,
would his “main character” halo still be so stable?
“Maddie.”
Roderick stroked Madeleine’s head.
“From now on, let me handle things like this. As for Edward,
don’t go near him, no matter if there are any side effects or
not.”
He would rather bear all the backlash himself than let her get
involved in these strange and unpredictable risks.

But Madeleine shook her head in his arms, her tone unusually
firm:
“No. I didn’t know before, but now that I do, I can’t let
you
face
this alone. Roderick, we’re husband and wife. We should carry
any hardship together.”
She looked up, her gaze burning as she looked at him:
“Besides, I don’t think I did anything wrong. Look, you’re awake,
and I’m fine. This means it might not be something we can’t
fight against, right?”
Roderick looked at the courage and light shining in Madeleine’s
eyes, and the words he wanted to say to protect her securely
under his wing were ultimately left unsaid.
He knew Madeleine. She seemed soft on the outside, but
inside, she possessed a toughness that was no less than his
own.
Once she set her mind on a path, she wouldn’t back down
easily.
He lowered his head and pressed a gentle yet solemn kiss on
her forehead.

“Okay.”
he replied in a hoarse voice, “We’ll do it together.”
Perhaps the side effects weren’t severe, or maybe Roderick
was in good physical shape. The next day, his medical check–up
showed nothing seriously wrong.
Considering the stomach bleeding could also be related to
irregular eating habits, the doctor came and instructed him for
over half an hour to eat properly from now on.
Madeleine stood beside him, typing furiously on her phone.
“Hey, wait a minute, Doctor. I didn’t catch that last part.”
atiently repeated, “Don’t eat anything hard to digest
en at night. You can have some liquid foods, like Yam
Powder Porridge or Black Sesame Sweet Soup, those are fine…”
Madeleine looked up.
“But he doesn’t like sweet things. What should I do? Is Seafood
Rice Porridge or Vegetable Rice Porridge okay?”
“It’s best not to have porridge, it can cause acid reflux.

Vegetable soup would be fine, though.”
Madeleine quickly nodded and continued typing to take notes.
After the doctor finished his instructions and left, Madeleine
was still organizing her notes.
Roderick couldn’t help but laugh.
“You don’t need to write that down. You forgot, Kirsten has a nutritionist certificate. She’s a professional.”
Madeleine looked up at that, and after a moment of realization, she glared at him indignantly.
“Ricki, why didn’t you say so earlier!”
“I just saw you talking to the doctor. You looked so cute, I couldn’t bear to interrupt.”
That look of genuine care and worry for him was something Roderick found very addictive.
Madeleine’s cheeks grew warm at his words. She shot him a
playful glare and put her phone away.
“You smooth–talker. Looks like you’re really better now, you even have the energy to tease me!”
Chapter 339
Although she said that, a faint smile spread across her eyes.
Seeing Roderick regain his spirit and bicker with her put her
more at ease than anything else.
She walked over, naturally reached out to feel’his forehead, and
