Walking Away While Pregnant: Dear Ex-Husband, I Don't Love You Anymore novel Chapter 148

Chapter 148: Chapter 148

Once back in her room, Elise took a quick shower, changed into her pajamas, and drew the curtains closed before sinking into the comfort of her bed.

Fleur’s little theatrical display was entirely expected and hadn’t ruined her mood in the slightest. She fell asleep shortly after lying down.

It was a deep, peaceful sleep. By the time she woke up, the sky outside was already pitch black. From downstairs, she could hear the faint murmur of laughter and conversation. Elise got up, freshened up, changed her clothes, and headed down.

The night air had grown a bit chilly, and as she stepped outside, she instinctively pulled her light cardigan tighter around herself.

Under the old tree in the backyard, several people were gathered around a stone table while Mrs. Shaw brewed tea. Rina, Alexander, and Josh were chatting and laughing, but they smiled and called out a greeting the moment they saw Elise walk out.

"Good evening," Elise replied, walking over to them.

Alexander pulled out a chair next to Rina and said to Elise, "The chef is working on dinner right now. It’ll just be a little longer."

"Alright." Elise offered him a warm smile and sat down.

"I was just debating whether I should head upstairs to wake you for dinner," Mrs. Shaw said, pouring cups of freshly brewed tea for everyone. When she reached Elise, she poured a cup of plain warm water instead. "Pregnant women should go easy on tea. Stick to warm water."

"Thank you." Elise scanned the group, noticing the absence of the children. She knit her brows slightly. "Where are the kids?"

"Robin’s mother picked him up and took him next door, and Lily is upstairs sleeping," Alexander explained. "She was exhausted after spending the whole day out on the water. Once we got back, she took a bath and went straight to sleep around four. She hasn’t woken up since."

Hearing this, Elise nodded and let the matter drop.

"We had a fantastic harvest out on the water today," Josh said, looking at Elise. "The captain gave us a massive grouper. Mrs. Shaw specifically instructed the chef to prepare it three ways. The head and tail are being simmered into a rich soup—she said fish soup is incredibly good for pregnant women."

"How wonderful. Looks like I’m in for another treat," Elise said, smiling at Mrs. Shaw.

"Of course! As a proud non-believer in marriage, I’m fully counting on helping you raise this child. Once little Seedling is born, you have to let me be the godmother. That way, when you’re old and Seedling is taking care of you, they can take care of me too!"

"Well, aren’t you a clever plotter, Mrs. Shaw!" Josh turned to Elise. "Elise, I want to be Seedling’s godfather too!"

Alexander shot him a sideways glance. "You really have no shame."

"If you hesitate on opportunities like this, you miss out entirely!" Josh huffed at Alexander before turning back to Elise. "Elise, having a celebrity godfather right from birth—how cool would that be for little Seedling?"

Elise gently stroked her stomach and laughed. "The more godparents, the merrier. Being loved by so many people is Seedling’s good fortune."

"Really?!" Mrs. Shaw and Josh exchanged a delighted look, both equally thrilled. They hadn’t expected Elise to agree so readily.

"Then it’s a done deal!" Mrs. Shaw said eagerly. "I’m going into the city tomorrow to have a custom longevity lock made. I have to lock in this godparent status properly with a traditional gift, just in case you try to back out when Seedling is born!"

Josh raised his hand. "Mrs. Shaw, make sure to take me with you when you go!"

"No problem!" Mrs. Shaw laughed, high-fiving Josh.

Alexander sat to the side, watching the two of them suddenly claim the titles of godfather and godmother, and fell into a quiet silence. A moment later, he raised a loose fist to his mouth and cleared his throat. "Well... since the more godparents the merrier, how about... adding me to the list?"
