Walking Away While Pregnant: Dear Ex-Husband, I Don't Love You Anymore novel Chapter 153

Chapter 153: Chapter 153

"Whether she refuses or not, that is between us as husband and wife," Dylan countered, his gaze frost-cold. "You are merely my wife’s retained counsel, Mr. Hayes. You have absolutely no right to interfere in how we communicate or interact."

Alexander frowned, his mouth opening to retort, but Elise cut in before he could speak. "Mr. Hayes, go on back. There’s no point in arguing over this. I’ll head back the moment I’m certain Robin is out of danger."

Hearing this, Alexander looked at her. His expression was serious, his eyes harboring a mix of concern and a faint, unreadable emotion.

After a beat, he let out a soft sigh. "I’ll wait for you in the car then." Without giving Dylan another glance, he turned and walked straight toward the elevators.

Knowing she couldn’t talk him out of it, Elise let him be. She watched the elevator doors close behind him, then turned and walked into the adjacent family lounge.

Dylan followed her inside.

The moment the lounge door clicked shut, the sound of Fleur’s weeping stopped abruptly in the ward. She stared at the closed door, her eyes burning with pure malice.

Inside the family lounge, Elise took a brief look around before sitting down on the sofa. She raised her eyes to look at Dylan, who was standing near the door.

"I’ll be blunt with you. I think there is something highly suspicious about Robin’s injuries."

Dylan looked back at her. "This is the second time Robin has suffered a head injury. It is highly probable that he has recovered his memories."

"And if he has, what do you plan to do?"

"The abuse he suffered from that nanny left deep psychological scars." Dylan paused, then added, "We will have to wait for Dr. Sanders to arrive and evaluate his condition before making any decisions."

"Fine. Then let me tell you my thoughts," Elise said, her tone dead serious. "Robin’s current attachment to me is largely due to his fractured memory. If he remembers everything, he will realize that the mother he lived with for the past five years wasn’t me. As for the truth about Quinn, you will have to explain that to him yourself."

"I know."

"Furthermore, there is something I need to make absolutely clear to you."

Dylan watched her. "Go ahead."

"Fleur came looking for me at the guesthouse yesterday afternoon, and I tore into her," Elise said evenly. "You know I never pull my punches with her."

Dylan pressed his lips together. A moment passed before he asked, "Are you suggesting that because you reprimanded her, she took her foul mood out on Robin?"

"Yes," Elise replied bluntly.

Dylan countered almost automatically. "My sister-in-law’s words and actions are indeed out of line sometimes, and I won’t defend her decision to confront you. But Robin is her child with my late brother. No matter how upset she was, she would never lay a hand on him."

Look at that. She hadn’t been wrong about him at all.

Even though she had fully expected Dylan to blindly defend Fleur, watching him actually do it still made her feel sick to her stomach for Robin’s sake.

"Dylan, Robin isn’t fully conscious yet, and Fleur was the only one with him when the incident occurred. My suspicion is entirely logical. As the victim, Robin is the only one who knows what really happened last night, and you should ask him first before dismissing it."

Dylan remained silent.

To Elise, his silence was a clear rejection of her theory. If Robin weren’t so small and utterly defenseless, she wouldn’t waste another breath on Dylan. But it was glaringly obvious that anything she said would fall on deaf ears.

"Forget it. There’s no reasoning with you." She pulled her earphones out of her bag, slipped them in, and opened a music app on her phone to play prenatal relaxation tracks. "I’m going to get some sleep. Wake me when he’s up."

With that, she lay down on her side on the sofa.

"There’s a bed in the inner room," Dylan noted. "You’d be more comfortable lying down in there."
