Dylan rushed back inside from the corridor. Taking in the chaotic scene, he stepped in immediately, his brow furrowed deep. "Fleur, calm down."
Robin kept thrashing his arms and legs, piercing screams tearing from his throat. "Ahhh—no! No!—"
"Dylan, just let us leave!" Fleur wept hysterically as she held the violently struggling boy. Looking as though she had been driven to the absolute edge, she shrieked in despair:
"Elise cannot tolerate Robin or me! I’m terrified now. Robin is still so small—I don’t want him to suffer unjust treatment because of me! Dylan, I know you love Robin, but he is the only child my late husband and I have. Give him to me! I’ll take him abroad, and we will never disturb your lives again..."
Elise watched Fleur, her brows drawn together tightly.
This caught her entirely off guard. She hadn’t expected Fleur to suddenly pull a theatrical stunt like this. Did the woman actually believe Dylan would let her take Robin away under these circumstances?
No. Fleur’s true motive wasn’t to take the boy away!
Elise’s gaze darted to Robin’s face. The little boy was twisting wildly in Fleur’s vice-like grip, his small face completely bloodless. His lips were even beginning to turn a dangerous shade of purple...
Elise’s breath caught as she suddenly realized what Fleur was trying to do!
She shouted instantly, "Fleur, let go of Robin! Can’t you see the child is suffocating?!"
"Elise!" Dylan barked at her, his voice low and sharp. "Can you stop making things worse?!"
Elise looked at Dylan and let out a cold, mocking laugh. "Dylan, you are utterly blind and deaf. If you truly care about Robin’s well-being, you should tell Fleur to get as far away from him as possible right now!"
Yet, entirely blind to the reality of the situation, Dylan roared right back at her, "Fleur is Robin’s mother! Seeing him like this is killing her too!"
Elise stared fixedly at Dylan for a long beat. In the end, all that escaped her lips was a deeply sarcastic sneer. She pulled her gaze away, turned on her heel, and walked out without looking back.
Watching her retreating figure, Dylan’s hands clenched tight at his sides.
The moment Elise left, Fleur, still holding Robin, swayed unsteadily and collapsed against Dylan’s chest. "Dylan..."
Dylan caught her just in time and deftly pulled Robin from her grasp. "Get some rest."
With that, he pressed the call button. When the nurse arrived, he had her take Fleur away.
After enduring such a violent psychological shock, Robin drifted back into unconsciousness. The attending physician came in to check on him, warning that the child’s mental state was incredibly fragile and that he must not be subjected to the slightest bit of agitation again.
Dylan stared at the unconscious boy on the bed and gave a quiet nod. He then called James into the room.
"Guard Robin. Until I get back, absolutely no one is allowed inside this ward."
James hesitated for a fraction of a second before asking, "Does that include the eldest Madam?"
"Especially her," Dylan said, his voice dropping an octave. "If she shows up, tell her the doctor explicitly stated that Robin cannot see anyone right now."
James nodded. "Understood, sir!"
Elise had just stepped into the elevator when she heard hurried footsteps behind her. Before she could react, a firm grip locked around her wrist. In the next heartbeat, the crisp scent of juniper closed in on her.
Frowning, she struggled hard against the hold.
"Don’t fight me," Dylan said as he stepped into the car, hitting the door-close button. "We need to talk."
