Walking Away While Pregnant: Dear Ex-Husband, I Don't Love You Anymore novel Chapter 159

Chapter 159: Chapter 159

Outside the ward, Fleur sat on a bench lining the corridor, casting frequent, anxious glances at the door.

The moment it swung open, a flash of relief washed over her face, and she scrambled to her feet and rushed over.

Dylan and Jessica stepped out one after the other.

"Dylan!"

Dylan paused in his tracks.

Jessica shot a brief glance at Fleur, then turned back to address Dylan. "Mr. Bennett, since the eldest Madam is here, why don’t the three of us discuss Robin’s condition face-to-face?"

Dylan offered a low, indifferent grunt of agreement.

Though a knot of unease tightened in Fleur’s chest, she nevertheless followed them into the adjacent family lounge.

Inside, Jessica began explaining the child’s current state to Fleur.

"Although Robin’s emotions have been soothed and he is temporarily stable, a stress response triggered by psychological trauma of this scale requires time and a gradual process to fully recover."

Fleur looked at Jessica, asking nervously, "Then... can I go in and see him now?"

"Not yet." Jessica looked her dead in the eye, her expression grave. "Robin just recounted everything that happened last night. Eldest Madam, if I may be blunt, your actions last night were the direct catalyst that triggered his psychological crisis."

Fleur’s face drained of color. "I... I didn’t mean to..."

"Even now, you still refuse to tell the truth?"

Fleur froze. She snapped her head around to look at Dylan. The man’s face was dark and solemn, his obsidian eyes cold and heavy.

Terrified by his expression, she instinctively took a step back as tears welled up and spilled over.

"I’m sorry..." Fleur covered her face with her hands, breaking down into heavy sobs. "I couldn’t control my temper last night. I’m so sorry, Dylan. I... I regret it so much too. I don’t know why I snapped at him... But you have to believe me, I really didn’t hurt him on purpose! He is George’s and my child—I love him so much, how could I ever have the heart to hurt him?!"

"From last night until now, you had countless opportunities to confess." Dylan stared at her, his voice devoid of warmth. "Not only did you stay silent, but you even tried to frame Elise for abusing Robin."

"I... I had no choice!" Fleur raised her head, clutching her chest as she wailed in desperation. "Seeing how much Robin relied on Elise... I was terrified! Dylan, you know better than anyone that when George passed away so suddenly, Robin was the only reason I kept going! I considered him my everything, yet he was closer to Elise... I was so afraid she would steal him away from me... terrified that I’d end up losing him too..."

"Elise is Robin’s godmother now. Is it not natural for them to be close?" Dylan said, his tone icy. "Fleur, my brother is gone. Isn’t it a good thing that there’s another person around to love and care for Robin?"

"You’re right, Dylan. I lost my head... I was foolish! I’m sorry, I truly realize my mistake now!" Fleur lunged forward, grabbing his arm desperately. "Dylan, I beg you, give me one more chance! Please don’t take Robin away from me, alright? I really can’t live without him..."

"Neither Elise nor I are trying to steal him from you. It’s just that right now, you have frightened him into a state of severe psychological stress. Keeping you away from him is purely to protect him from being triggered again." Dylan let out a weary sigh. "If I had known your emotions were still this unstable, I wouldn’t have brought you back from abroad in the first place."

Fleur’s breath hitched, a look of pure panic seizing her face. She shook her head frantically. "Dylan, trust me, I’ll change! I’ll take my medication on time! I promise I won’t let my emotions affect Robin ever again!"

Dylan kept his thin lips pressed together, remaining silent.

Standing beside them, Jessica had been observing Fleur the entire time. Seeing that the woman had no intention of dropping the issue, she stepped forward, gently supporting Fleur’s trembling frame and guiding her down onto the sofa.

"Miss, please don’t get so worked up," Jessica said softly, her voice reassuring. "All we are saying is that Robin needs time to recover. Mr. Bennett is not trying to separate mother and son. Out of concern for Robin’s well-being, he simply hopes you won’t appear in front of him for the time being. After all, the boy genuinely relies more on Miss Harper right now."

Fleur froze. She stared at Jessica, her brow furrowing tight. "What is that supposed to mean?"

Jessica met her gaze, speaking gently yet firmly, word by word: "As Robin’s child psychologist, I believe staying with Miss Harper right now is the best path for his recovery."

"No!" Fleur bolted up, screaming hysterically. "I gave birth to Robin! On what grounds does he get to stay with Elise?! I refuse!"

She turned back to Dylan. "Dylan, you can’t do this to me! If Robin stays with Elise, he’ll never recognize me as his mother again... You can’t be so cruel to me! Robin is George’s and my child—he’s my whole life!—"
